Certain parts of the plot direction were kind of obvious, but the concept of the novel was intriguing. You wanted to hate characters, but could not help liking them. Overall I liked the book.
I’ve been a fan of Emily Liebert’s writing since I picked up her touching debut novel, You Knew Me When, a few years ago. She has an amazing talent for crafting complex female characters and engaging plots.
Pretty Revenge follows two women in alternating first person narratives. We first meet Kerrie O’Malley, a twenty something woman who has just lost her job and is living with a boyfriend she finds more than faintly repulsive. When she turns on the TV and sees Jordana Pierson, an acquaintance from childhood who did Kerrie wrong in some way, Kerrie is shocked. Now a Manhattan wedding planner to the rich and famous, Jordana announces that she is looking for an assistant and Kerrie’s life changes in an instant. After moving to New York and undergoing an extensive makeover to change her appearance, Kerrie applies for the job under the name Olivia Lewis. The two women develop an efficient working relationship which soon deepens to a trusted friendship. Once that trust is established, Olivia is free to exact revenge on the women who ruined her life so many years ago.
“Jordana took everything from me, and now I’m going to take everything from her.”
Meanwhile, Liebert expertly doles out information from both of their pasts in small delicious parcels. The interweaving of the present and past narratives is seamless and enviable and that’s no easy feat! The reader gets just the right amount of information at the right time to keep the pages flying all the way up to the perfect conclusion. Both Olivia and Jordana are real women—complex and flawed, and I completely understand and believe both of their motivations.
One of the most compelling characters, Olivia’s Nana, full of sage advice and clever quips, never even appears on the page. Nana’s favorite saying, “Senseless revenge will whip its neck and snap you on the bottom,” runs through Olivia’s head several times, but she always dismisses it. She knows without a doubt that her revenge is justified and makes complete sense. Is her revenge pretty? You’ll have to read this delicious novel to decide for yourself. This is a perfect one day beach read—put it in your beach bag and thank me later

This is your typical revenge story. A woman going far (the furthest possible) to get revenge on someone who wronged her.
Ethically speaking, I'm not a believer in revenge, but when it comes to reading, I'm a sucker for a good revenge novel. There's something so incredibly entertaining about seeing the extents that someone would go to get revenge on someone and the price they will pay to get it.
In this novel, I think it's safe to say that Kerrie's morals are out the door and thrown into the dumpster. Revenge makes you do crazy things, indeed. I thoroughly enjoyed the narrative as it switched back and forth between Kerrie and Jordana, slowly unraveling the reason for Kerrie's big vengeful plot. There are some nice twists here and there along with some secrets which are totally in my alley.
If you're looking for a fun, quick revenge thriller, then this is the one. The plot is a little far-fetched and wacky, but after all this is fiction, so where's the fun in a boring plot?
Thank you to Gallery Books for providing me with a finished copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

❐ Overall Rating 4¼ | Narration 5
❐ Narrated by Erin Mallon & Natalie Naudus
❐ Listening Length: 7H 20M
❐ Part Contemporary Revenge Thriller
❐ Part Woman's Fiction with a Domestic feel to it
❐ Dual POV's
❐ A hint of romance
A highly engaging story about getting revenge on someone who you believe wronged you in a way that was unforgivable. The audio narration was performed to perfection, the writing was captivating and the characters were perfect in their roles. My only issue with this story overall...is Olivia comes off as someone who is motivated, smart, and likable...so much so it's difficult to believe that she couldn't have gotten her life on track before she went down the revenge path. I don't know...maybe, she just needed the right push.

Not bad, not bad at all. Following two woman whose paths crossed briefly 18 years ago as they meet again in very different circumstances, it never quite hits thrilling, but definitely stays interesting. I feel like the end was a bit rushed, and one character was a bit overdramatic, but all in all, it was good.
I won this book from the giveaways and I enjoyed this nice, quick read.
3.5 Stars
Nothing really happened, but I did enjoy the writing style. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a thriller, though.

I finally got around to reading Pretty Revenge by Emily Liebert! Phew I could NEVER hang onto revenge and anger the way Kerrie does, it’s too consuming but man oh man does it make for a wild ride to read!!! Im nosy and needed to know how it all played out and there is enough here to keep you reading on to find out
How far would you go to seek revenge against someone? In the end I find it never seems as worth it as it did in the beginning. When things unfold, innocent people get hurt in the process and that alone would make me pump my brakes BUT that isn’t the case with this one! This one is binge worthy and an easy weekend read.
Think...socialites...secrets...good and bad...slight backstabbing...everyone’s got a story to tell and their own agenda!

Overall an entertaining read! If you’re looking for a well thought out mystery I wouldn’t recommend this book. It’s more dramatic and a bit unbelievable but it does keep you entertained! It was easy and quick to read and the story line did keep you hooked.
