“If you wrong us, shall we not revenge?” ~William Shakespeare
In ℙ𝕣𝕖𝕥𝕥𝕪 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕟𝕘𝕖 by Emily Liebert, two kickass women with checkered pasts reinvent themselves. Kerrie becomes Olivia to try to get revenge on Jordan, who is now living as Jordana, a high profile wedding planner in NYC. Olivia applies to be Jordana’s assistant with the sole intention of making Jordana pay for something terrible she did to her 18 years ago.
𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙠...I was so into this book for about 80% of it. I was loving the interaction between Olivia and Jordana! There’s something so satisfying about watching someone be completely deceived without a clue that it’s happening. If Jordan did something terrible to Kerrie when they were younger, she totally deserves whatever she gets right? Eye for an eye and all that jazz. When Olivia kicks her plan into full gear to start bringing Jordana down, I was Olivia’s #1 cheerleader 📣. I had my imaginary Pom Poms out and I was shaking them all about! Super pumped for that touchdown of sweet, juicy, no holds barred revenge. Then, faster than I could cheer “GO TEAM,” the story went out of bounds. I had to put my Pom Poms away and that just makes me sad. The story ended too abruptly. I didn’t feel satisfied. The ending left me thirsty, y’all! I like my revenge to the utmost level of juicy, please! 🥤
I will say that I really enjoyed Emily’s writing. It was a very quick read and flowed smoothly. My major issue is that Pretty Revenge is being called a thriller. I went in with a certain expectation, you know.. to be thrilled. In my opinion, this wasn’t a thriller at all. It was more like chick-lit with a little bit of a dark side. I didn’t feel any suspense or anxiety as I was reading and those are the feelings I crave from a thriller.
Worth a read? yaaas. 🙌🏼
Do I feel thrilled? nahs. 👎🏼
Overall, if you’re looking for a fun and quick read, I would still recommend this one. Just go in knowing that this is NOT a thriller and you’ll probably enjoy it way more. Managing expectations is the key to happiness people! Remember that! 🤔
This book was delicious in a total shallow, appearance-based, old money New York City kind of way. It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting (I was thinking it was going to be more of a thriller) but I did think it moved at a fast pace. I enjoyed it but I think I would have loved it even more if the timeline was either slowed down or if the scenes were set with more detail. I would have loved for Olivia and Sara’s relationship to have really blossomed, as well as seen what Jordana and Olivia’s relationship would have looked like. I also couldn’t help but feel like Jordana began trusting Olivia far too quickly for being a self-proclaimed control freak with trust issues. Regardless, the book was catty and full of sardonic impressions a la Gossip Girl. It’s definitely not prize literature but it’s also not the worst book I’ve ever read either.

A solid meh if a pulpy revenge story with an ultimately unsatisfying conclusion. RTC
Meh. The payoff at the end of the book was nonexistent. I finished it, but I don't have any sense of closure. I won't be reading any more of this author's books.
Pretty Revenge by Emily Liebert is a fast-paced novel full of revenge. Kerrie O'Malley's life was altered in a single moment; she was wronged as a young girl by an older teenage girl who she had looked up to and all she has wanted for eighteen years is revenge on that girl. Kerrie gets her opportunity for revenge when she sees the woman who ruined her life on television. This woman has become a prominent wedding planner and needs an assistant. Kerrie assumes another identity and applies to the position; when she gets the job, she puts her plan of revenge into action. Jordana seems to have it all with a successful wedding planning business, an incredibly wealthy husband and an apartment most New Yorkers would die for but under the surface, the dark shadows of her past are lurking. Only Kerrie thinks she knows the true Jordana and she is going to make her pay.
Pretty Revenge is the perfect summer read. It reads very quickly and is fun with a slightly soapy edge. It is pretty to the point so if you're expecting lots of twists and turns, you won't find them in Pretty Revenge. I also wouldn't say that this is a thriller but a female-driven revenge novel. I liked that Emily Liebert moved between the perspectives of Kerrie and Jordana; Kerrie's voice was particularly strong and I loved her revenge plan.
There are definitely mixed reviews on this one, which I understand, but if you read it with the expectation that it's a light, quick read, you might enjoy it like I did.

Ahh yes, back to the thrillers that we all know and love. PRETTY REVENGE by Emily Liebert was a quick moving thriller with just one focus – revenge. Jordana Pierson is a successful wedding planner and is about to take on the Wedding of the Century in Manhattan. Olivia Lewis has just moved to New York and was hired to be Jordana’s assistant. What do these women have in common? Neither of them is who they say they are.
Jordana Pierson, formerly Jordan Butler, came to New York to run from her past and make a better life for herself. No one, not even her husband, knows who is really is. Olivia Lewis, really Kerrie O’Malley, sees Jordana on the news one day talking about her business as a wedding planner for the rich and famous of Manhattan. Only, she knows her as Jordan. Almost two decades ago, she ruined her life and Kerrie wants one thing, to ruin her life like she ruined hers all those years ago. Both women looking dramatically different (Kerrie having received braces and then a nose job after breaking her nose), Kerrie was able to go info her interview without being recognized. So her mission begins.
I loved how simple and straightforward this thriller was. There was one objective and that was good, old-fashioned revenge. We didn’t have crazy weaving stories or multiple twists, it was Olivia and Jordana working together and we got snippets of flashbacks as the story unfolded. The pacing was great and the chapters were short. We alternate between Kerrie (Olivia) and Jordana’s perspectives throughout the book.
If you’re looking for a quick thriller for the summer TBR, then this is the perfect one! You got a really good feel for the characters and were able to relate to them. There is always more than meets the eye, and I think the author did a great job unfolding the story for us. I’ll definitely pick up more from Liebert!

I feel like this year I have tried out a few mysteries that had a lot o hype and praise but didn’t live up to that hype. Pretty revenge was not something I had heard a lot about and when I read the description was sure it would be to my taste but thought I would give it a shot. I am so happy I did, it was just the book I was looking for. I really enjoyed Emily Liebert’s writing style and found myself quickly drawn in and didn’t want to put this down. I think the back and forth of Kerrie and Jordana’s perspectives was done well and both characters where more then meets the eye. Overall I enjoyed how this revenge story played out but did think the end was a little weak, not bad but perhaps could have been a little more dramatic. All in all this was a really really enjoyable book.

Pretty Revenge was such an entertaining read! This book had all the drama and backstabbing I could hope for, and I had so much fun watching this book play out. I liked that it was a pretty straightforward story, and I found it to be refreshing. I hope to read more from Emily Liebert!
