I typically could go either way with Colleen Hoover. I don’t fully understand the hype around her, especially on booktok. Her books are good, but typically nothing revelational. That being said, I genuinely enjoyed this book. I did think that the FMC was a flat character and not very likeable. She went from “I’m strong, I can turn feelings off, I don’t need anyone” to “I need him” so quickly, literally after knowing him for approximately 2 days. I did like Samson, though. He’s cute, sweet, mysterious… exactly the type I love to read about. The part I enjoyed most about this book was the way you were able to build up a character in your head a certain way and then by the end of the book have that image of them completely crumble because it was all a lie.

As usual, CoHo have her ways to leave a memorable ending for her novels. That ending touched my heart in all the right places.

This novel centers Beyah, a young adult who probably had enough struggles to last her a lifetime. When her mother died of an overdose, she reluctantly decided to spend summer with her dad, who she didn't really know and vice versa, before she leaves for college. That summer turned her life around.

I really loved how Beyah's character was introduced in this novel. That was such a strong and interesting start. Her background really explains why she would be drawn to Samson. On the surface, their story feels rushed and shallow but when you really think about where these two characters were coming from, you'd know why they needed each other.

However, for a CoHo novel, this felt underwhelming me for me. Don't get me wrong, she's still one of my favorite authors. But after reading All Your Perfects, Verity and Layla, I had so much expectations.

I still have big appreciation for this one, though. I was just so intrigued about Beyah and Samson's own personal struggles and I hope I could've read more about them.

The ending was phenomenal but it felt kind of rushed for me. Well because pleaseeeee, I WANT MOREEEEE

Beyah is poor. Her mother is a drug addict. When her mother OD’s, it doesn’t leave her with much of a choice. She goes to stay with her father, who she has spent very little time with in her life, until she goes to college in the fall. That summer changes the whole course of direction of her life.

Another excellent read by the fabulous Colleen Hoover!

The book had an amazing beginning and end and I loved the characters. The only problem is that I feel the events were rushed. Maybe it's just because I've been book serieses for the last few months bit I think this book would've been better if it was a little bit longer. Aside from that, it was AMAZING!
