DID NOT FINISH: 73%

I was really interested in this in the middle and then it started rapidly going downhill. Once I had figured out the twist ending and knew I wasn’t going to continue on in the series, I couldn’t be bothered to finish the book.

I sat down and read this entire book in one day and enjoyed every minute of it! Fast paced, and endlessly intriguing, this is definitely one I'd recommend and will probably read again in the future.

I was disappointed in The Vault of Dreamers. I expected a lot more then I actually got. I was expecting more science fiction to it then, there was. The whole reality TV show was interesting but it wasn't enough to hold my attention. Sadly, I had high expectations of this book that were not met.

I wasn't a huge fan of the romance. It was cute, I can agree with that but I didn't think there were sparks. Rosie and Linus worked well with each other, they each held a quality that the other didn't. Rosie and Linus's on screen kiss is what kept Rosie in the top fifty ranking. But then there are trust issues and tons of unanswered questions that left me frustrated.

The whole dream harvesting / brain surgery idea was awesome! It really was and I got excited when I first read it because I thought that the book was going to take a turn. It did, for about five pages. Everything got predictable from there. Plus there are tons of unanswered questions! What happens to Linus? Is Burnham alive? Who is Numa and how is she involved?

I expected for a book that took place after 2045 to be more scientifically advanced then it was. It was like today's world, only slightly more advanced. Also, there is still Facebook in 2045? I was hugely disappointed in The Vault of Dreamers, I excepted something epic and attention grabbing but I got a bunch of blah and confusing details instead.

Hey guys, so I just finished reading The Vault of Dreamers by Caragh M. O'Brien. Really, I am not sure how to describe this book, it was kinda all over the place. The initial story line is basically centered around Rosie Sinclair, whom is faced with the impending, and possibly dooming "fifty cuts" in the Forge School of Arts, which so happens to be a reality show. Therefore, all that stupid crap that reality shows crave like drama, heartbreak, moronic stunts accompanies the students daily lives. To me, that was just superficial, and I was kinda dreading how the rest of the novel would play out. Anyway, blah blah blah happens, with a blur of other events, and of course they had to throw in a tiny, hardly worth anything but puppy dog type romance. Along with ooh shocker, the school has a secret! In all honesty, I think the plotline moved a little too fast and it left my mind reeling and frazzled. Before I knew it, it was the crazy end to the book and I was let astream. I was,and still am rather puzzled about the, perhaps dull, set of twists. Moreover, I think I just want to read the sequel The Rule of Mirrors just to see what the hell exactly occurred. Amidst all that chaos, I did find it interesting that the author decided to cultivate dreams in a way that has rarely been explored. That aspects definitely brought some life to this novel, but it didnt offset the so called "glamour" of being a school that practically ranks their students based of viewer popularity. How crude. All in all, I think the Bulletin's review "A sharp novel about the ways in which everyone can be manipulated, either through editing or one's own desire to go the easier path" pretty much sums it up.

This was definitely an interesting one. I consider it more of a 3.5. For me, I loved the beginning and how the book went about telling how the show worked, with ranks and etc. However, somewhere towards the middle, I noticed they moved away from that and I sort of fell out of touch with the book. I think that the show should have continued to play more of a major role in the story.. and I think the Burnham character had much more potential, had he been used more. Istruggled to get passed the middle chunk for a while. However I am glad to say that it did pick up again towards the end, giving me an overall positive impression of The Vault of Dreamers. I will be picking up the next book whenever I get the chance.
Do give the book a shot!

It’s sad because the idea was there, but wow this was really not good. Plot holes everywhere; the story literally didn’t make sense. I have no idea what that ending was. Big yikes. Unfortunate.
