Okay, I did NOT expect the entire first half of this book to be the first book rewritten in the other POV… and you know what, I’m not even a little mad about it. It was super spicy and I’m here for allllll the pining. Plus, I think getting the chance to get into Malachi’s mind a little and see that he’s not a total psychopath (especially after what he did to daddy dearest 😬) was probably needed. Don’t get me wrong, he was already fantastic but knowing what he was thinking and seeing things from his perspective made him so much better.

Getting a little more background on why Malachi is the way he is was also great. His past and childhood were dark and sad so it’s no wonder he feels so disconnected from the world and found a way to protect himself.

Picking up where we left off kind of threw me for a loop but once got acclimated, I had a great time. There were so many new elements to the story when it was from his POV. And of course there were a lot more pages to explore parts of their story.

The situation with Xander and his family wasn’t something I expected to take up so much space but it added some conflict (that wasn’t between our main characters, thankfully) and some tension. I was biting my nails and couldn’t put the book down for the last 150 pages.

And my gosh, the epilogues were my favorite! I love getting to see what they’re up to down the road and not just a month or a year.

My only question is… can we get a story on Abigail and the Reznikov brothers orrrr…? 🥲

Tropes:

I am so disappointed that I didn’t enjoy this book more. Utterly disappointed. Little Stranger wasn’t my favorite book ever, but I still ate up every red flag and trigger and questionable moment. I had high hoped for this as a sequel. But I just didn’t care for some of the choices that were made in the structure and direction of the story.

Overall this was felt like just an average read for me. The writing was decent enough. I did enjoy the story while reading it. I just didn’t personally love all of the choices that were made, and it wasn’t the best story for me.

I could NOT wait for this book, as I rated the first one  4.5 ⭐, and though I did enjoy the read, I am sad to say it fell short of my expectations.

Part 1 of the book is a retelling of the events that already happened from the first edition of the duet, but from Malachi's point of view, and for me it didn’t add enough to the storyline to warrant taking up the first 50% of it. Part 2 had a decent amount of plot points, but it took FOREVER for the action to finally come, and when it did, it was rushed and over in the blink of an eye.

Overall, I still loved the series. Sure it’s controversial and fucked up, but that’s what I am here for!

i wanted to give this 5 stars so, so badly, but i felt like it was lacking something. i feel like malachai was really different here and i had a problem with that, maybe it’s because he became a lot more controlling and unhealthily obsessed with keeping olivia to himself. aside from that, i also thought the ending was rushed, it felt like a “shock factor” moment, but idk. like i said, i really wanted to love it but it missed the mark.

I went into this with zero expectectations. The first half of this are Malachi's story from the time he was a child in a bad situation through the events in the first half of Little Strager through Malachi's pov. I had wondered about the dad's role through all of this and in relieved to learn that he is not a total monster, but he is clearly too busy to fully grasp the monstrous things his wife is doing.

The second half of this book splits the povs between Olivia and Malachi. Olivia is doing her best to hold herself together while dealing with the fallout of running from her wedding. Malachi is stubbornly stuck in the thought of he has what he wanted and doesn't need to grow anymore. He does make changes, but only at the pushes of Olivia.
What I was definitely not expecting was the underlying bratva aspect that gets Olivia kidnapped.

🩷 This is a pseudo-incest relationship, but there is no blood relationship between Malachi and Olivia.

Spice Scale
 〰️ No romantic plot
🤍 A small amount of romantic plot is present, but doesn't get past kisses and hugs.
💚 There is some light spice, but closed door
🧡 There is mildly descriptive spicy scenes, but they are finished very quickly and could be easily skipped over.
🤎 Spice is present, very descriptive, but doesn't overwhelm the plot.
🩷 There is a plot, but there are quite a lot of descriptive spicy scenes that are often different encounters that span back to back chapters.
💜 Plot? There's just enough to get to the next round of spicy times.
