Have only read one other Kortya novel Those Who Wish Me Dead which is excellent, but feel that this book is just a rearranged plot of the same novel.

From Goodreads Description of Those Who Wish Me Dead:
When fourteen-year-old Jace witnesses a brutal murder, he's plunged into a new life, issued a false identity and hidden in a wilderness skills program for troubled teens. The killers, known as the Blackwell Brothers, are slaughtering anyone who gets in their way in a methodical quest to reach him. Now all that remains between them and the boy are [2 people], who run the wilderness survival program, and endless miles of desolate mountains.

In this new novel, there is a brutal murder, a new life, false identity, hiding in the wilderness, and troubled teens. Slaughtering? Yes. Desolate mountains? Yes, but moved from Montana to Maine.

Lots of suspense, but this felt very violent with plenty of blood, so be warned. There are elements that stretch believability including that most sacred tenet of a mother never abandoning her child. Enjoyed the suspense and learning about float planes. Kids are smart, too. Basically good novel, but perhaps not his best.

Excellent thriller. A unique story line, a bit of unrestrained violence and oddly entertaining banter.

Bastante increíble todo, pero entretenido.

(3.5 stars) I've read most of Michael Koryta's thrillers and have enjoyed all of them and this book was no different. It's a good thriller about a girl who has been hiding from a very bad man for ten years, and through events outside of her control, has to come out of hiding, and the pursuit starts once again. Once the sort of penultimate act starts, the book is good and interesting and filled with action, unfortunately, it takes a lot of talking, talking, talking, and not much action to get there.

Having said that, the book kept my interest mainly because of the fascinating character of Dax Blackwell, who is in pursuit of the girl, Leah/Nina, is as fascinating a bad guy character as I've read in awhile. He definitely kept my interest.

4 stars meaning one of the year's best so far. Always like thrillers from this author. Tells a great suspenseful story with lots of memorable characters. I'm anxious to see the movie for "Those Who Wish Me Dead" which is coming out soon but this one seems like it could be even better. I have to go back and make sure I have not missed any of his books because they are always very good.

Fast moving, action focused book about a woman and mother, Nina Morgan, who goes missing and is presumed dead. In reality she is alive but in hiding to protect her kids and husband.

Ten years later events unfold which bring her out of hiding in order to protect her kids.

The setting in the Maine wilderness was beautifully rendered in this book, along with Michael Koryta's usual cast of interesting, flawed characters. I didn't enjoy this one as much as some of his other books. It might have been that, for me, there were a lot of murders to the point where it just felt ridiculous.

Listen to this book on a road trip with my father.

It follows a mother who had the impossible choice of staying with her family and running from the men that want to kill her or “dying” to never see them again and keep them safe.
