So many twists, I got a little lost, but it definitely kept my attention!

i read this because i've been in a reading slump and i saw it on a list of fast paced / thrilling books that are supposed to get you out of a slump.... and it had the absolute opposite effect, it was soooo slow and miserable to get through, the entire thing was a retelling (all tell no show), and it was entirely just about random family drama and he said/she said interspersed with chapters from the psychologists point of view, in which she just describes the definition of a personality disorder in detail. the story gets repeated a million times in different formats for some reason. i couldn't finish it and looked up the twist to see if it would make it all worth it and it really didn't.

This book really left me disappointed. I think the author had a few good ideas for a story, but couldn't quite put together a storyline that gave her ideas any justice. And the characters were way too flat for the depth of psychological damage they were supposed to be suffering. lots of leaps of judgment were required, but weren't satisfied. the ending made me "ugh" out loud and toss the book to the floor.

Emma and Cassandra disappeared from their childhood home three years ago, and now Cass is home. Where is Emma? Cass weaves the story of their disappearance, where they've been, and what has happened to them over the past few years, but the main psych profiler on the case just doesn't buy into it and can't figure out why. Even though the unreliable narrator trope can be frustrating, this one definitely took a turn or two that I didn't see coming. I thought it was likeable, overall, but not compelling or thrilling. Just a standard thriller.

This book was as suspenseful as it was heartbreaking. First of all, I think it’s amazing that Wendy Walker has worked as an attorney in family law because that brings SUCH an interesting perspective to the dysfunctional aspects of the Martin family. I was left guessing til the very end and was very happy with the epilogue of everyone’s stories!

All I can say is wow!!! This book kept me in suspense from the first page to the last. It is so smart and so well written. I love reading a book that leads you down a path, so perfectly choreographed that it's like a dance. No detail was overlooked, and I wasn't left with any questions or inconsistencies. Thank you to netgalley for the ARC of this book.

I would give this 10 stars if I could. I have read many thrillers, and this is the best one of the year. This author did a genius thing here. I did not see the twist coming. Not at all. Genius, genius. If you like thrillers, you have to read this. You might be a little confused, like I was, but that's on purpose. Keep going. Enjoy!
