“I think there are two types of people. Ones who have a scream inside them and ones who don’t.” - Emma in the Night.
One night, three years ago both the Tanner sisters disappeared. Fifteen-year-old Cassandra and seventeen-year-old Emma. However, three years later Cassandra returns home, without her sister. Her story involves a kidnapping and betrayal on a mysterious island where the sisters were held. But to Abby Winter, forensic psychiatrist, something doesn’t add up. She looks at the sisters dysfunctional family and uncovers a life where boundaries are violated and a narcissistic parent runs the house. Where ones sister’s return may be the beginning of a crime.
This is another great thriller that follows sisters as well as their dysfunctional family. It has a lot of twists and the plot is well done. I enjoyed trying to figure out the inner workings of this family, as well as what actually happened to the sisters when they disappeared. This book will definitely keep you guessing until the end. Go into it blind!

Two sister disappear one night. Three years later, one returns alone. I figured out the main "twist," but the hows and whys kept me hooked til the end.
The first thing that comes to mind when I think about this book is Wow!. This has to be one of the surprising thrillers that I have ever read. There are so many twists and turns that take to a conclusion that I didn't and wouldn't have expected.
I found both Cass and Abby to be extremely interesting characters and the pressures that they grew up with make them even more surprising. Not only are there great, well fleshed out characters but the way that their story unfolds will keep you glued to the screen.
I highly recommend EMMA IN THE NIGHT to any of my readers who enjoy a well written thriller with a surprising conclusion. There is some violence and sex but nothing over the top so no need to worry about teenager enjoying this book.
*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed within are my own.

You are told everything in this story and what you are told doesn't make you care about any of the characters.

One of the better female-narrated thrillers I've read recently, and though I guessed a few pieces, there were still some delightful (and horrifying) surprises along the way. Was a great experience on audio!

This book was a bit of a whirlwind for me. I was really planning to rate this much lower as I read though it, but nearing the end this book had a decent enough redemption, including the twists I needed to make it just better. I love the idea of this story, but it feels choppy to me. It felt as though constantly throughout this book that characters would piece things together without any real explanation to how. I assumed I missed it and kept rereading parts to be sure. It was strange for me. I love concept, the cover, the ending, but this was just okay for me. The ending was the best part.

I wanted this one to be much better because of the great reviews. It had potential but ending up just being mediocre.
