This book wasn't quite 4 stars, but it was closer to 4 than 3, so I rounded up.
There are a lot of traditional thriller elements within this book, but I also thought it brought something slightly different to the table.
I can normally predict thrillers pretty well and for the most part I had this one pegged, but the portrayal of a mother with narcissistic personality disorder and how that can impact the people around them, especially children was fascinating to me.
It was satisfying and a fast read (I read it in about two sittings) and I enjoyed the characters and the dynamic they had with each other. I liked this book and I would definitely read more from this author.

Emma in the Night is the story what happenend to Emma and Cass told by Cass upon her return home after the sister disappeared 3 years ago. The story has a lot of plot twists I wasn’t expecting. I enjoyed the book even when I felt the author drifted a bit.

Was definitely not expecting that ending! Really interesting story line!
This book was written well, it had me turning the page and I finished the book in less than a day. The story creeped me out and I was left feeling confused. You don’t find out what truly happens until the last 40 pages and then the book just ends. Only 3 stars for me. Not one of my favorite psychological thrillers.
Wendy Walker truly has the gift of prose; this is a quick story that you will curl up with one afternoon and look up, and the sun has set, and you are starving. That's how entrapped with the characters and the story you will become.
This book is written from the perspective of an unreliable narrator. For me this can either make the book or break it for me. I say this only so that you know my review is solely based on that + how it ends. The in-between for me was great story-telling but I'm very picky about books that unveil the mystery based on whether or not you can believe who's telling the story. I didn't hate it in this book but found it difficult to love the way the story is revealed in the final arc. It gave all the facts to me in one fell swoop and wanted me to digest a whole books worth of story in the final 10 pages to piece together the rest of what's real and what's not and that is what made it a middle of the road story to me.
If you Like edge of your seat, didn’t see that coming, stories then Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker will not disappoint. The tale of sisters Emma and Cass who disappear one night and three years later only Cass returns. What happened to Emma is a convoluted story in which the players are narcissists, sociopaths, and predators. Cass is a fascinating character, as is her mother, Mrs. Martin. This is a great layered story, but it’s riveting because as Cass says, “We believe what we want to believe.” And this story, these sisters, and this family, is sometimes quite unbelievable. But thrilling.
