Insta-love :/ I have to say I'm a bit disappointed because Halfling was suuuch a good book. I think had I know that this would set up the rest of the series (and seen this as more of a prologue) I probably could have enjoyed it more. There's at least 5 different epilogues and basically all of them show us how happy and frisky our protagonists are. Well, it gets boring after the first three. I think my main problem was that there wasn't really a conflict. The antagonist wasn't even really a threat, she was just...there.
I did enjoy the world though and the concept of gargoyles that the author came up with.

I really liked the concept of this book. But the execution fell a bit flat. The time jumps made the pacing of this book feel contrived, it was weird that the first half of the book takes place in 574 AD and then the second half literally skips 1,500 years. I wanted more from relationship between Cary’s and Gavriel, I wish time was spent getting to know them when they were talking through a well and gap between worlds. A lot of time is spent trying to world build and explain the plot, but very little is done to advance the plot.

I just got really bored with this one. The writing isn't as good as her more recent book Halfling and the plot is spotty. Insta love isn't my thing. The only reason these characters seemed to like each other was because they were mates. The connection isn't earned.
