Sweet and sincere, this was a nice way to relax for a day (or the 3 hours it took to read from beginning to end). Managing to be playful and serious is quite a feat, but managed by Banting with surprising elegance and little apparent effort. Every read by her is refreshing, queer, and brings to life relatable and real characters and this is no exception.

This was kinda disappointing, tbh. They were in love so quick barely felt like they spent any time together and the way no one seems to have any friends or found family or anything and Katherine depends solely on her one (1) friend for everything just feels so unhealthy. The conflict also felt so lame, idk, didn't convince me.

Overall it was a lovely reading, the MCs have some hang-ups to fix yet, but I can see the potential in the couple and definitely will read the sequels. But I think the romance was a bit overwhelmed by the sickness. I missed "seeing" more of their chemistry, because when Anna wasn't running everywhere to take care of her father, she was sort of exhausted and being taken care of by Katherine. The latter still needing to be a better communicator and the first less of a mule. But somehow I still want to see them together and how things progress.

Honestly, I didn't care for this one much. Too much angst and too little setting up the characters actually being good with or for each other.

If you’re looking for a nice, easy read with likable main characters and relatively little drama then this is a good one for you. The dialogue flowed naturally and could clearly visualize the different parts of the quaint little village. The only down side was that I didn’t really feel any chemistry between our two main characters but it’s a decent read nonetheless.
