I gave this fifty pages-- fifty pages to be something other than an embarrassment of cliched phrases and reprehensible sexism. It did not meet the challenge.
The author actually thanks a male friend in her acknowledgements for helping her "get into a guy's mind" to write this book (it's told from Drew's perspective), and this fact left me more aghast than the abysmal writing. I might feel vaguely bad for someone who wrote such an ugly example of entitled priggishness on the sole influence of mainstream media, but this woman consulted actual men in order to write Drew, who is so selfish and clueless as to be almost inhuman.
DNF, with absolutely no chance of trying again.

I dont think it's possible to dislike a book that much, but it is, and Tangled is my proof.
This book was so incredibly gross I couldnt finish it due to the amount of sexism and misogyny before I almost threw up.
Like seriously, he treats women like shit, and expects us to sympathise for him? Nah, I hope the MC stays heart broken forever and ever, because to be honest he deserves it. Why do people write male characters like this! How do they expect us to find a guys sexy who treats every other woman terribly and as trophies that have to 'earn his respect' while he does very little to earn the readers and STILL expects us to root for him throughout the novel.
Yeah this was so bad oh my god.

This breaks my heart. A 1-star fomone of my favorite romance authors.
Tangled is an early Chase book, maybe her first, so the great news is that she got SO much better. Her current Royally series is an absolute delight. But this book is awful. Kate, the female lead, is lovely. So you want her to run fast and hard from this creep named Drew. Drew is gorgeous and rich and great in bed. He is a dream one night stand, but you need to leave before coffee because he is a lousy person. All he cares about is money and having sex with a string of women he only sees once. He has a whore-madonna complex as big as the ocean, terrible taste in music, and he is pretty basic. He is like a 12 year old with an Amex Black and a Viagra prescription. I misspoke actually, he also cares about his office furnishings and his Aston Martin. (He is exactly the guy who would have one in NYC; an expensive low slung car that would allow you to never see anything but the car in front of you in traffic is ridiculous. The whole car thing is so bridge and tunnel.) Drew makes nasty cracks about feminists and men whom he sees as insufficiently manly (whom he calls "vaginas" because of course that is an insult.) He defines masculine women as being like Hillary Clinton. He says Hillary Clinton couldn't keep her man from cheating (obviously Bill has no responsibility) because she didn't give head. (As if we know about Hillary's sexuality.) Hear that ladies? Making men behave honorably is our responsibility, and if they behave dishonorably it's our fault. Drop to your knees to save the world, sisters!
Perhaps the worst part of this book is that it portrays stalking as a romantic gesture. Stalking in her workplace no less (his workplace too, which is a separate issue.). MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!! She is trying to work, and he gets a terrible 80s cover band to follow her around playing terrible music so she can't serve her clients. He fills her office with balloons and flowers. She is a 1st year investment banker in an all male pod. Way to destroy her credibility! Drew tells Kate he won't stop stalking her unless she has dinner with him and finally she breaks down so she can work. There is nothing romantic about being stalked.and being forced to capitulate to keep your job. It's terrifying. Luckily I did not have a situation which included violence, but it is not uncommon. The whole predator vs. prey mindset which underlies stalking is a recipe for violence. Tenacity is hot, baring your heart and soul in private is hot. Showing up in a person's office to beg them to take you back and tracking their activities is obsessive and dangerous. This sick messaging is for people who think I'll be Watching You is a love song.
Stick to later Emma Chase, its great, really. Leave this on the shelf.

Who doesn’t love a good grovel?
This book is funny and cute and sexy like a lot of rom coms, especially Emma Chase ones. But what makes it different from others that it’s written entirely from the hero’s POV. And he’s talking directly to us, the readers; kind of like The Office in book form. You don’t get into the heroine’s head at all, which is pretty rare. That might throw you off at first but it’s a super interesting way of experiencing a romance, and I already love the author’s style. She has an especially strong male voice, as is evident from Royally Screwed as well.
This is otherwise a traditional-ish, enemies to lovers, office romance, so the hero, Drew is of course an unabashedly arrogant ass, and he knows it. And he tells us all about it. He definitely has a whole lot of dickish thoughts and actions that might skeeve you off for a bit, but that also means it’s a very honest representation of him. His mind is like spending time in a well appointed gutter; you spend enough time in it, you start to love it. 😂 This also means we get to see his growth and see him turn into a mess of a lovesick puppy.
Also, this is the perfect story for those who want an enemies to lovers romance in which the hero isn’t too much of an asshole especially with the heroine. I mean, his comeuppance and the conflict resolution is handled so well, the last 30% of the book is just him making up to her. He gives great grovel, people! I mean, he also does it to annoy her a little, but it’s glorious and heartwarming 😍

I’d give it 3 stars up until the rich cocky male slut who btw has to get his penis swabbed on a monthly basis to make sure he has no stds (ew ew ew) all of a sudden becomes a whipped Santa Claus stalker (gag). The book became way too over the top stupid for me, so I put it down.
Listen - I'm stingy with my five-star ratings. Especially when it comes to big girl romance novels.
But this right here? Let me start with the lead character.
Mr. Drew Evans? Love him. I want to be his BFF because if I were a single man, I'd probably be just like him. He has a wicked sense of humor but he's also very aware of his issues. He has LOTS of braggadocio, but he is also truthful about his shortcomings as a man. There are few male characters in romance novels I feel a kinship with and he is def one of the few.
I really liked Kate as well. She matched him round for round and was a well fleshed out character. Alexandra (Drew's sister) also touched my inner bitch. LOVED her!
I read this in two days and I cannot wait to read Book Two. I have to finish up a book but the minute I'm done - Book Two is mine!!

Good for the soul
This is the first book I have read by Emma Chase, and I am so glad I found her work. So many feels are packed into the pages of Tangled, the first book in The Tangled series. Great story building that leaves you feeling light hearted by the last page.

At first ai just wanted to know what all the hype was about. This book was simply amazing. I don't think I ever laughed so much during a book. Drew was simply amazing, and Kate was a total badass! I loved it!
