I really tried to like this and was hoping my opinion would change as I continued, but unfortunately I couldn't get past certain things. The novel is told from the MMC perspective only, which is fine, however, I found the narration grew tedious. There were a lot of comments made from the start with the MMC lusting after the FMC and copious references to her physical attributes. I get that he is a womaniser and so he thinks of women as objects, it just became repetitive after a while. The MMC also frequently breaks the fourth wall, which paired with his characterisation (he is really obnoxious and conceited) just rubbed me the wrong way. I'm sure other people love this book and I completely respect that, it just wasn't for me.
I loved this book! I was very hesitant to read it at first but once I started I couldn't put it down. I wasn't a fan of the writing style, for example the very first line "Do you see that unshowered, unshaven heap on the couch?" That frustrated me a little bit.. But the story was beautiful and the characters were so well written. I fell in love with drew and Kate the minute they started talking.. And I absolutely love Dee-Dee the crazy best friend.. I can't wait for the next one.
Drew is so unlikeable, but the use of the ‘t’ slur to describe a random person in a karaoke bar is where I draw the line.
Graphic: Cursing, Fatphobia, Infidelity, Misogyny, Sexual content, Alcohol, Sexual harassment
Minor: Transphobia
The MMC is incredibly unlikeable. I cannot imagine a redemption arc for him at any point in the rest of the book that would actually be satisfying.
This was so freaking hilarious, my god I love Drew Evans. So far I would say he is my favourite male lead from a romance novel.
Fairly straight forward romance, but from the male point of view which is refreshing and definitely humorous.
