A good, quick, classic murder mystery. I love the simplicity of Christie’s writing. I definitely did not see the ending coming, but there were clues I would pick up on if I were to read this a second time. This is truly a good starter for anyone who is interested in reading murder mystery but doesn’t like gory, dark tones, as the story is light and easy to digest (nightmare-free zone!).
My complaints are that there were a few useless characters and too many police/colonels involved- I would’ve liked to see Christie narrow it down a bit. I didn’t understand why some characters were listed in the beginning cast descriptions and some were not.
Miss Marple is a gem and I’m excited to read more of the series. Solid 3.5 stars!

Miss Marple is an annoying know-it-all and there is so much classism and sexism that I lost count of how many times I rolled my eyes. I've really enjoyed several other Agatha Christie mysteries, but this one was extremely mediocre. I think I'll just stick to the classics from now on. One the plus side, it was a really quick read!

This was a really fun Miss Marple book! She took a backseat, the way she does in most of her books, but I liked the other characters at followed and I liked that the mystery originated in her village. The conclusion was satisfying and kept me guessing until the end.

As part of a reading challenge, I chose this book to check the "Author I Can't Believe I've Never Read" box... Because I'm a bit embarrassed I've never read Christie previously; she's iconic.
I wanted to like it, as a light murder mystery. Maybe I'm not into the genre enough, or maybe Miss Marple just grated my nerves too much. Either way, I finished it, but was less than thrilled. At least I don't have a Christie-shaped hole in my reading history now?
Recommend for: people who know they like Agatha Christie, murder mystery fans who don't mind condescending tone
