Listen, this sequel is a whole mood. Davi, our favorite Dark Lord, is now stuck in the throne she never really wanted, trying to broker peace in a kingdom full of bloodthirsty Wilders and human enemies who won’t stop scheming. No more do-overs. The time loop is over and every choice is final. Talk about pressure.
What still made me laugh? All the snark, pop culture quips, and gamer logic that standout in this series. But this time there’s real weight underneath. When Davi has to face consequences for real, and no reset is coming, that’s when you feel the shift, this isn’t a game anymore. She’s leading, for real.
The worldbuilding continues to expand. We finally get more of the human side of the conflict. Royal courts that are ridiculous and corrupt. Hidden secrets that explain how the time loop started. Magicians who might be pulling the strings. And the tension between humans and Wilders is raw and urgent, not just funny.
The story never really drags, but I do feel there were a couple moments that took me out of the story. You do get strategic planning, betrayal twists, magic action, emotional depth, and then another surprise. The final stretch hits pretty hard and shows how clever the writing is on this one.
The character growth is the real deal. Davi evolves from sarcastic survivor to someone who’s fighting for peace and meaning. She’s built a found family with the Wilders and maybe even human allies she never expected. It’s emotional without ever going sappy.
If you are into fantasy that is unpredictable, clever, emotionally grounded, and still hilarious, this one is for you. It ties up the duology in a satisfying way and leaves you shook in the best sense.
