I didn’t expect to love Empire of the Vampire as much as I did. I’m usually not a fan of vampire books, they tend to be romance heavy, and vampire romance just isn’t my thing. But this book is something else entirely. It’s dark, brutal, and beautifully written, and while the vampires are definitely present, the heart of the story is so much deeper.
What really drew me in was how much this book wrestles with themes of faith, finding it, losing it, and questioning what it means to believe in something. As someone who isn’t religious, I actually found that part of the story incredibly compelling. Even though the book is set in a fantastical world, the religion (called the One Faith) clearly pulls from Christian influence, and it explores the weight of belief, guilt, and purpose in a really thoughtful way.
At its core, this is a story about survival, identity, family, and battling the darkness both around and within. I was so hooked that I bought the second book before I’d even finished the first, and jumped in as soon as I turned the final page.

normally i only log books in if i reached at least 15 percent, to minimize my dnfs. the reason i put this in so early was bec i was genuinely so excited and wholeheartedly believed theres no way i wouldnt be able to finish it. however. as much as i liked the main premise (jk i was skeptical) the amnt of religious imagery was enough to put me off for good. i thought i could push through, i cant. ill try my luck with a different vampire book
