I wish I could read this book again for the first time. It is technically a psychological thriller, but it has so much heart.

This book destroyed me. I loved it. The book was wayyyyy better than the show.
If you’re looking for a fun beach read, this is not it. But it is worth the read.

The twist was a little unexpected, but not enough to make the rest of the book worth it.
The characters are generally underdeveloped, hard to connect with, and even harder to care about (maybe because the book itself is very short and choppy, feeling more like a recap than a full-fledged novel).

~~The main character spends most of the book complaining about a headache, but honestly, it's nowhere near severe enough, she got off waaay too easy.~~

Docking 3 stars for the poor little doggies (and sloppy writing, of course, but mostly the doggies). That was unnecessary and genuinely upsetting.

I was so annoyed about how most of the characters were behaving and interacting with the narrator, then the twist made it all feel worse?

dark mysterious sad slow-paced

I had been meaning to read this book since I was a teenager and finally got around to it in my twenties. Beautifully written and somewhat complex at times, perhaps that’s why I didn’t get to it until now. Somewhat predictable I would say but still enjoyed the read.
