The story is a journey of one man. Truthfully, I didn't see the point. I have to admit the author does know how to use the English language to the fullest. I wish I had liked it better.

This book was a gift. I did not like it. I got halfway through and was just so tired of reading about losers doing nothing. No plot, lots of rambling, boring and it didn't help this was a sequel when I didn't read the first book.
Liked certain sections more than others. Probably because I'm a Jersey Girl, the parts about the NJ shore (there is no "South Mantoloking" but hey...) was what interested me most. The stuff about the trip with his son (no spoilers) not so much.
This book is slow, calculated, musical, and it broke my heart.
I had a really strong reaction to this book by the end. I had felt myself beginning to feel frustrated by the pacing while I worked through it, but the circumstances of the relationship it deals with is really moving and what happens by the end is shatteringly sad and real. This book is about life; plain old life.

Decent writing, albeit a tad bit too tedious for my tastes. I also thought the plot was just dangling and mostly pointless. Belabored is probably the best word for how I found the book. I'm not convinced this is Pulitzer worthy, but I can acknowledge Ford's talent as a writer. He's good with phrasing and has a fairly extensive vocabulary. But it just didn't really resonate with me all that much.
Second in the Frank Bascombe trilogy about a sports-writer-turned-divorced-real estate-agent. Highly recommended by me to you.
