This book was so fun. All the characters had so much personality and the premise was insanely interesting to read through. I adored to see how the messages changed based on what happened in the story. Even if you're not reading any more than online texts, it feels like you can grasp everything that is going on.

I really think both comedy and horror were well balanced. This was funny, bold and terrifying all at once.

So, why only 3 stars? After a particular scene I can't bring myself to give it more than that. It was such a shame, because I had a lot of fun reading this. But excusing rape and never acknowledging it as such AND even portray it as the start of a romantic relationship? Vile.

A delightfully surreal diversion from my normal reading fare. It was a weird, fun, quick read - though I think only other people who've had to use Slack for work would really appreciate the absurdity of it.

WOW. This might be one of the best things I’ve read this year and it’s definitely the craziest. 👍 :dusty-stick:

A great, fun, modern take on “what happens when the robots develop desires of their own,” how they’re able to infiltrate using AI as the driver and a (maybe not so) absurdist take on our brains melting because of and into AI. The foresight of this book is also incredible because it came out in 2021 before the AI boom.

[Spoilers below]

I totally didn’t realize the reach beyond Gerald until the very end. The only ones who made it out (Gerald, and in a sense Beverly) got out because of love/passion. Tripp and maybe Nicki started melting in, honestly maybe Doug too which none of the reviews talk about - his to do shopping lists starting to repeat back to him?? Hello??? Lydia was melting in or maybe was never out in the first place and the only person who noticed (Rob) noticed too late or maybe he never actually lost the client brief but couldn’t find it and it was living in his subconscious??
