Robb can't put a foot worng for me. I love these books so much. I can always count on something intriguing, funny & sexy. Although i didn't give this one 5 stars because it was a little bit predictable and the deaths were REALLY disturbing. Otherwise I can't wait for the next one!

it was a complicated one. i didn’t like fbi’s involvement. some books are great with them in it, this one was not. i didn’t like that peabody&mcnab didn’t resolve any of their issues. at this point i blame only peabody. roarke’s past in this book brought a lot of mess.

🤍

“He went to a skirt movie? Took her?"
"That's what I said."
"Ah, Christ." He got off the desk, took a quick turn around the room on short, bandy legs. "That's it, you know. That's the finish. Boy's sunk. Next thing you know he'll be picking her flowers."
"Already done."
"Don't tell me this shit, Dallas." He turned back, basset hound eyes pleading. "Don't put this business in my brain. Isn't it bad enough I know they're, you know, getting naked together?"
"Nobody listens to me about this." She nodded, pleased to have found a like mind. "Roarke thinks it's sweet."
"He doesn't have to work with them, does he?”

“She slapped at Roarke's hand as he tugged the chain around her neck and popped the tear-shaped diamond he'd once given her from under her shirt.
"Just checking. Apparently, I'm still your guy.”

“He sat on the edge of her desk, smiled at her. "Why, I wonder, would you suppose I'd know the answer to that?"
"You know every damn thing."
"That's flattering, Lieutenant, but domestic activities such as silver polishing are just slightly out of my aegis. Ask Summerset."
"I don't want to. That would require speaking to him on a voluntary basis.”

“I want a riot laser," Eve snapped at Peabody. "Full body armor." She yanked a six-inch combat knife from its leather sheath and watched, with glee, as its wicked serrated edge caught the sunlight through her little window.
Peabody's eyes popped. "Sir?"
"I'm going down to Maintenance, and I'm going locked and loaded. I'm taking those piss-brain sons of bitches out, one by one. Then I'm going to haul what's left of the bodies into my vehicle and set it on fire.”

“Tag Feeney," Eve ordered when she was behind the wheel. "Have him run like crimes in and around London."
"It would be my honor, Mrs. Lieutenant Dallas Roarke." At Eve's burning look, Peabody only grinned. "Sorry. I just had to do it once. I'm over it.”

“Why don't you come sit over here?" He sat himself, patted his knee. "I'm sure I'll think better that way."
"What do I look like, the bimbo secretary?"
"No, not at the moment, but that might be fun. I'll be the horny executive, cheating on his long-suffering wife. Let's hear you say: 'Oh, Mr. Montegue, I couldn't possibly!' And make it breathy.”

“Still she waited until Roarke had crossed the garage, walked up the line of unmarked vehicles to Summerset.
"They're like family, huh?" Peabody said as she got into the car. "Hey! That makes you sort of like Summerset's daughter-in-law."
Horror drained all color from Eve's cheeks. All she could do was press a hand to her stomach. "Jesus, I feel sick.”

“And, Eve, about the tattoo?"
"What?" She'd started out of the shower, stopped dead with a look of such horror he had to fight back a laugh. "She didn't. I'll kill her."
She raced to the mirror, and knowing Trina's favorite spot twisted around to look at her own ass. "Goddamn it! She got me. What the hell is it? A pony? Why did she paint a pony on my butt?"
"I believe, if you look closer, you'll see it's a small donkey. Or what might be referred to as a jackass.”

These are just my light, fast, fluff pleasure. Kind of my mindless go to when I want a short book to listen to when I am not sure what I am in the mood for. I like Eve and Roarke and the ancillary characters are excellent as well...what I don't like is the graphic crime descriptions....the are disgusting but more than that, at this point in the series, they are getting monotonous. I have no idea if I will keep going with this series as long as JD Robb has but still I plan to continue the next time I want some fluff.

It was OK. Didn't grab me as much as some others in the series.
