3 stars - Picked this up after seeing it had Inheritance Games and Knives Out + magic vibes. Say less, I'm in!
The book follows Tabatha Zeng, who was an apprentice for one of the best sorcerers in the country up until his murder. Instead of leaving his spells and legacy to his family, he willed it to Tabatha and she is left trying to figure out why.
My biggest complaint is that the middle 100 pages went through the same sequence of "who did it", "did you do it", "did that person do it" over and over again. The book doesn't actually pick up until about 85% of the way through.
The ending was anti-climactic and left a lot of major questions unanswered.
It was a good, fun read overall, but wouldn't read again.

Predictable, weak plot, the fact that the main character has powers to predict the future is irrelevant because she doesn't use them in the investigation and besides, the chapters were huge. So no.

I enjoyed this light reading mystery novel. It kept you guessing until the end on who committed the murder. Easy reading and interesting book.
