A fantastical murder mystery. Say what? Tabatha, Sorcerer Solomon’s apprentice, must solve his murder, a murder he predicted. Tabatha teams up with Callum, the sorcerer’s son, to discover the murderer. But can she trust him? And what about his magic-wielding siblings?

These Deadly Prophecies by Andrea Tang was a magic-infused mystery told from the perspective of its protagonist, Tabatha Zeng. The book started off slow, but intriguing enough for me to follow through to the end. However, the detective part of the mystery was underwhelming. It was more speculative than actual detective work. And the whydunnit was a bit underwhelming for me as well. But the whodunnit was pretty good. The narration was juvenile and full of ramblings that seemed unnecessary but I suppose it was meant to tell us who Tabatha is.

The mystery outweighed the sorcery in this story to me. I expected more magic and more sleuthing. The long chapters seemed unnecessary as a lot of the narration didn’t add a lot to the story. But I did love Tabatha and Callum and I had fun trying to deduce who could really be trusted.

The development of Callum and Tabatha’s relationship was nice but I wish we got more of them in terms of intimate moments and brushed hands etc. more pinning!
The fact that the why was so lame is the reason for the rating bc the ending should be satisfying but it felt slow and rushed all at once. And the why was lame i would’ve rather it be a premeditated murder than an accident.
We don’t get closure on the inheritance and how that’s going to affect Tabatha and her relationship with Callum. Williams she be moving into the Solomon mansion?? Too many unanswered questions.

I was really excited to dive into 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗦𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗟𝗬 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗛𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗯𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗴, especially with its promise of a magic-infused murder mystery. The concept of a teenage sorcerer’s apprentice, Tabatha Zeng, solving her boss's murder sounded thrilling. The book's description and the comparison to *Knives Out* and *The Inheritance Games* really drew me in. However, as I read, I found myself a bit disappointed. The narrative, written from Tabatha's perspective, felt juvenile and often went off on tangents. While I appreciated the conversational tone, it sometimes felt more like a ramble than a compelling story. The investigation itself was underwhelming. Instead of actively solving the mystery, Tabatha and Callum spent a lot of time speculating without substantial evidence or real detective work. The twist at the end was a decent surprise, and despite my frustrations, I was curious enough to see it through to the end. Overall, 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗦𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗟𝗬 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗛𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗦 had potential but didn’t quite deliver the gripping mystery I was hoping for.

“during that time, we'd gone through shit together that would have bonded the worst of enemies, but that wasn't all.
i’d miss him if he weren't in my life.”

~ ♡ 3/5

was sort of repetitive and the chapters were so long it sometimes felt like it dragged. but i loved callum and tabatha so much, i wish we got more of them.

i also would have liked to see more of the sorcery aspect, we only got a handful of those scenes and they never came from the fmc, so that was a let down.

but i did enjoy this nonetheless but i wouldn’t rave about it.
