Couldn’t be higher than a 4 for me just because I do not enjoy Colleen Hoover’s writing style, it feels very Wattpad-esque to me. Points in the book that were from the villains point of view were in tracing, captivating, and made me want to continue reading, however, parts that were written from the protagonist point of view were often drawn out, lengthy, and not as interesting as they seem. Very intense book to read, with lots of trigger warnings. Still don’t know if I fully unraveled the mystery myself. Well written, for the genre that it serves. Overall, Verity’s POV was exceptional and the primary motivation for continuing this book, and Lowen’s perspective felt bland to me, so I give it a 3.75.

This book was disturbing. Storytelling is top notch, but the way this book made me feel was... messed up to say the least. I had to read a completely different type of book after this one for a palate cleanser. Would be a great movie!
Okay, so…this one was a wild ride to say the least! I finished it in about two days, which is absolutely unheard of for me. But once I started, I did not want to put it down. This was also my first dive into the world of CoHo, and I will certainly be back for more!
If I’m being honest, I feel like I might have rated this a 5-star read if I hadn’t been a bad person and looked up mini-spoilers ahead of time, so some of the “shocking” jump scare moments didn’t get to me. But the whole letter versus manuscript aspect? Genius. I’m still going over the details a week later, and I just have no idea what to do with this information

2,5 ⭐️—Colleen Hoover’s books are usually emotional and romantic, but this one turned out to be a whole different experience—and honestly, way too dark for my taste.
From the moment Lowen enters Verity Crawford’s house, the story grows heavier and heavier, and the manuscript she discovers is disturbing in a way that made me deeply uncomfortable. It wasn’t the kind of tension that kept me excited—it was the kind that made me want to put the book down. I know some readers love that spine-chilling, twisted psychological edge, but for me it crossed into territory that felt unsettling rather than enjoyable.
By the time I reached the end, I just felt drained. The ambiguity might be clever, but paired with how graphic and uncomfortable the rest of the book was, it didn’t land well with me.
If you enjoy dark thrillers that really push boundaries, this might be up your alley. But if you’re like me, and prefer suspense with a little less shock value and a little more heart, Verity probably won’t be the book for you.

This book was an absolute page turner. It will have you tethered to it’s twisted plot until you either pass out or finish it. It’s creepy and chilling and I say that as someone who is rarely creeped out by a book. Read it. Now. Thank me later.
