Takes a while to get going and really never does. Decent read but not great
This is another one of the classic Harlan Coben stories with a wild initial premise, then as you read on, you unravel the mystery.
In this case, the protagonist Jake Fisher is dumped by his girlfriend Natalie who has decided to marry her ex-boyfriend Todd. Six years later, Todd dies but when Jake tries to send condolences to Todd's wife, he finds that Todd's wife is not Natalie and has never heard of her.
I liked most of the story but the reveal was not that exciting and the action after the reveal was a bit boring. I think the author should have stretched out the investigating part and kept the reveal and afterwards short and sweet as the reveal is rarely as satisfying as the premise.

I almost didn't read this because I'd read reviews saying it glorified stalking. I needn't have worried, it seemed clear to me that there was something else going on

This was my first book by Harlan Coben, but definitely not my last. Six Years is a book shrouded in mystery with this dry humor interlaced throughout that makes you laugh when you least expect it. Jake, our MC, fell in love six years ago only to abruptly lose the girl he loved to another man. Natalie (said girl) makes Jake promise never to look for her and then disappears from his life. Six years later he sees an obituary for her husband and decides to try and reconnect with Natalie. Only, the wife at the funeral is not Natalie. And so begins his quest to figure out what really happen six years a go. This book is filled with twists and surprises that leave you as confused as Jake is, especially at the beginning. Slowly the past starts unraveling itself and a picture of Natalie and the events surrounding her disappearance begins to form. By 3/4 of the way through I had pretty much figured out what happened, but I felt myself second guessing my assumptions until the end. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book: the plot, the characters and the writing.

Six year ago Natalie walked out of Jake's life and made him promise not to follow. She was the love of his life and married someone else. Now, Jake reads the obituary of her husband and with those feelings never dimming over the six years, he sets out to find Natalie not knowing the magnitude of things he is going to uncover in his search.
This book was ok. I listened to it on Audible, and just kept finding myself not paying attention and having to rewind. I'm not sure if it was the narration or the story, but I may have liked it better had I read the actual book? Maybe it would have held my attention better? Who knows? On to the next one!
