Going into this story, I had no idea leprosy still existed, much less that there was a leper colony in Louisiana until recent years. I felt the emotions and confusion of Mirielle as she struggled to adapt to her new life. And I felt appalled that people were treated so ignorantly for so many years.

I found this book very interesting. I have only read one other book about Hansen's Disease (Leprosy). Even though there were a few small things that bugged me about the characters and relationships, overall I really enjoyed this book.

This book kept showing up as a recommendation for me, but I wasn't sold on it based on the description. I am so glad i gave it a chance anyway. This was difficult to get into- I'd say the first 100 pages, I wasn't attached but then once I got into it- I couldn't stop. I cried. I laughed. I loved it! Would definitely recommend!

A great read on a little know part of American history. Highly recommend.

Really cool to read a book on this topic. Not 5 stars because the main character continued to grow then regress, but other than that I really enjoyed it!
