What an interesting book to read and learn about the leper colony in 1920s Louisiana! I appreciated the growth Mirielle experienced over the course of the story. I also appreciated that this story was very clean.
My only objection is that the editor needs to brush up on his/her homophones. There were several instances where the wrong word was used, for example, "chicken grizzle" instead of gristle, or a "hoard of buffalo" rather than a herd or even a horde. The one that made me giggle, however, was the "grizzly sights." I'm pretty sure Louisiana doesn't have many bears, so I think "grisly" might have been more appropriate.

3.5⭐️- This was a time in history in which I knew little about. The time of active Leper Colonies. People with Leprosy were chased down by police and thrown into these colonies, typically, for the remainder of their lives. Often times, they never saw or heard from their families again. I enjoyed learning more about this time in history, but for me it was a bit drawn out and redundant. I was expecting the book to be a bit faster paced and give more details about the disease itself. Still a decent book though!
I really enjoyed this book even if a few parts of the plot were a little predictable, it definitely made me aware of a time and place I had never really considered and kept me engaged in the story.
