I love that this book is about a lesser known piece of history. Amanda Skenandore is the queen of fantastic books about topics that don't get enough attention! Between Earth and Sky is one of my favorite historical fiction books, ever!
This book was fascinating and heartbreaking. The research that went into this novel is impressive. The character growth was perfection. I didn't always like Mirielle, and I really enjoyed seeing her grow. I came to love some of the tertiary characters immensely. This book and the characters will stay in my heart for a long time.

While I loved the story of Carville, I did not love the main character. I found it fascinating to learn of the leper colony in Louisiana. But I found Mirielle to be lackluster. I was pleased overall with her storyline and satisfied with the ending. She just wasn't worth giving this book 5 stars for me and I can't quite explain it. Ultimately, I do recommend this novel to anyone interested in the topic of Leper colonies in the US.
