I Normally love KLS Books but this one was not for me. I struggled to finish it and left feeling gross and disappointed. The writing was terrible (see example below) with a very long and very lame confessional at the end too.

Everyone and everything in this book is off-putting and annoying. I was especially irritated that so many characters said “if I am keeping things from you it’s for your own good”

A thriller centered around parent and child dynamics and small town gossip. It raises thought-provoking questions about how far we are willing to go to protect those we love and what we are willing to sacrifice in order to uncover the truth.

Ten-year-old cousins Maddy and Brianna are arrested for killing an old lady living down their grandparents house. Their parents are in complete denial and the two sisters, Juliet and Chloe's lives are completely blown apart when they defend their accused daughters. To make matters worse the two cousins have taken a vow of silence and refuse to talk to the cops. To save their daughters Juliet and Chloe know they unlock their own secrets even if it means confronting their past , a past they swore never to talk about again.

The Silent Ones by K.L. Slater is a fast paced novel with short chapters and well developed flawed characters.A story of a dysfunctional family, full of lies and secrets and a surprise twist at the end makes for an excellent read and I would highly recommended.

I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

I don’t think I could confidently give a summary of this book because I truly don’t even know what happened. There was no sort of organization at all. The book is written from 4 different perspectives with 80% of the book written from “Juliet’s” point of view, which at that point you might as well just have her narrate the whole book!!! The plot was all over the place and there was too much happening. There were points when I truly forgot that a murder was supposed to be investigated.

This is also hardly a thriller. There isn’t any sort of suspense and when you do find out what happens (within the last 10 pages of the book), you’re left feeling unsatisfied. The only reason I’m rating this book 2 stars is because of the last 3 pages.

An interesting little mystery - I thought I’d figured it out and why, but was surprised in the end.

Meh.

More of a 3.5. Interesting story, I just didn't get sucked in as much as I would have liked.
