For some reason I really wanted to like this book but I was just too bored.
I felt like there was way too much time spent explaining things and theories that weren't that important and by 60% I didn't see any build up to the romance.
I also never found out what species the main character is, which annoys me. Still, the book was dragging too much for me to stick around just to find out what she is.

If you like Kate Daniels, then you have something in common with this author. :)
Reagen Summerset is an enigma. No one can quite figure out what she is. But what everyone who meets her does know is that she is a badass supernatural bounty hunter. She is also broke and desperate which is how she finds herself working with elder vampire Darias. But what they Find and who ever finds out who she really is, may change her life forever.
⚡️Flawed MC
⚡️ Laugh out loud moments
⚡️ Mysterious backstories
⚡️ Magic and magical items and creatures.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a light and easy to grasp story and although it's touted as a romance, there is almost none. Though I suspect that future books in the series will definitely see this bounty hunter and vampire turn their bickering into something a lot more friendlier...
I loved the FMC sense of humour, foul mouth and how deliriously clumsy she is... she feels realistic in the way she is flawed. And the scene where is gets drunk is my absolute favourite in the book. This book had me laughing out loud numerous times and I'm excited to continue the series!

Was it just me, or was the writing kind of choppy? Sometimes I had to go back a page to make sure I didn't skip one because the dialogue would suddenly shift and didn't make sense. The relationship between the main characters was weird. Reagan's actions didn't make sense half the time. I won't be reading the next one.
This rating is for GraphicAudio's dramatized adaptation.
I'd hardly call this "heart pounding and laugh out loud funny". I didn't laugh once, I assure you. It was mildly entertaining at best, and outright mediocre at worst.
Plot ⭐⭐⭐
Supernatural bounty hunter Reagan is very much a lone wolf (except not actually a wolf, we don't find out her species until the end). When a vampire steals her mark, she is left in a tough situation financially - and desperate enough to help him solve a mystery in exchange for money.
Characters ⭐⭐⭐
They're not hateable but they're also not particularly likeable. The author really overdoes Reagan's rough-around-the-edges vibe. I have no problem with this trait but come on, there's always more to a person. Yet Reagan is just portrayed as a very poor, very magical woman who doesn't like people. And Darius is a snob.
Romance ⭐⭐
What romance? There were two blood-induced kisses, dry humping and some very random dirty talk. That's it.
Writing ⭐⭐⭐
The important parts were overcomplicated. I was confused any time something was being explained, and when re-reading didn't help I just accepted that I was going to remain confused. The writing in these parts could have, and should have, been much more coherent.
Supernaturals ⭐⭐
WHY WOULD YOU MAKE VAMPIRES INTO GREEN SWAMP MONSTERS?! AND THEN EXPECT US TO BE ATTRACTED TO ONE OF THEM?!

*Whispers* But I'm probably still going to read the next book...

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would after reading the first 50 pages or so. It definitely improved the more I read.
What an awesome and fun read! I enjoyed Breene's Warrior Chronicles and the Darkness series, but I loved this beginning to her new series. I can't wait for the next book!
