This was my second read of this book, but I didn’t remember having read it. A solid Urban Fantasy Romance: the heroine is feisty with a dark secret and she has to work with a broody Alpha. The mystery is fine, but the ending is a bit lack-luster. I remembered several set-pieces, but the final reveals didn’t stick with me. I don’t think they were fully earned.

Awesome audiobook. Full cast, graphic audio. This will be a slow burn. Impatiently waiting for book 2 audiobook to be loaned to me in Libby.

It was a good read, but I found myself disappointed and I won't be continuing the series. The writing was good. The characters had depth. The story was interesting but a lot of the details weren't well thought out and didn't make sense. The heroine made tons of dumb moves, like going by herself into a cavern full of vampires... why? And for some reason the heroine understands her father's magic but not her mother's even though her father is MIA and her mother raised and trained her. For some reason some low on the totem pole shifter is the go-to for information about mages? Then in some scenes there was just way too many words, I had to re-read to figure out what was going on. On top of all this the hero is a total flop, he's the cliche good-looking but cold blooded vampire... but really he's a bad tempered, infertile, undead man-ho and really not husband material. He was well done character wise, but he would have been way more entertaining as a secondary character rather than a romantic interest.

Love it

Action packed and very intriguing story of witches, demons, shifters and vampires. A page turner of danger and thrills. I love the snarkiness of the main character. A new favorite for me. Can’t wait to see what happens next. KF Breene is a master story teller.

I really liked this book. Pacing was good, the FMC was likeable. I’m looking forward to finishing this.

Probably more of a 3.5 than a 4, but still pretty good. The 'romance' part of it was awkward and confusing. It felt really distracting, to the point that it pulled me out of the story enough to be confused about what happened from one paragraph to the next because it seemed so disjointed. The 'romance' really grates, but if I ignore those parts, the book was pretty good. I will probably check out the next book, because I enjoyed the rest of it... and just hope the romance part stops being so weird and shoehorned.

I read another review that basically said this was an enjoyable read, in the vein of Kate Daniels, but that Ilona Andrews did it better. Honestly, I feel like that is a perfect encapsulation of this book.

Thoughts: Great read, but unsure if I want to continue the series. I will say I enjoyed the comedic parts in this!!
