I wanted to see what the big deal was. I think my expectations were too high.
However, the illustrator did an amazing job at showing realism through animated drawings. It made me feel like I was actually on The Polar Express.

Me and my family watch The Polar Express together every Christmas Eve, yet I had never read the book, so this Christmas I thought I should change that.

It's probably worth stating at the beginning of this review that at 25, I am obviously not the target audience for this book, however, if you go into it accepting it then it's a very enjoyable Christmas read. (I hope to do a module on children's literature for my degree, so I'm starting to read more children's classics that I missed the first time around.)

One thing I will say is that I felt the story did lack description and I wish that some of the illustrations, beautiful as they are, had shown more (you don't even see the conductor).

Still, a wonderfully magical story, that little me would've loved and probably have read every day of the festive season.

A truly magical Christmas book. I cry every time I read it because it’s so beautiful.

Re-read 2020! My absolute favorite Christmas story/picture book! It isn't Christmas without the Polar Express!

I am probably the only person on the planet with a child that has never read this or seen the movie, but hey! I did it! I bought this as a gift for my 4 year old daughter and we read it last night. It was a very cute Christmas story about the magic of believing in Santa. The pictures in the book were nice works of art, but not overly engaging for children I thought.
