There is a lot going on with this book and I was swinging between a 2 and 3.5 while reading.
The writing style is distinctively Aciman and it’s an easy holiday read for the most part which I enjoyed.
However, there were a lot of things that I didn’t like. Aciman seems to be suggesting that the only way love can exist is obsessively, instantly and with massive power (and age) imbalances. This makes sense in the original due to Elio’s age but here it was just bizarre. The sex scenes made me feel yuck due to the above and the constant incest innuendo (????). The characters were often melodramatic and sleazy and the few female characters were just objectified with little substance.
It retains the essence of Call Me By Your Name but didn’t succeed in the way the original did

Aciman has reeled me in. After this second installment, my heart was pulled apart but then slowly put back together.
The drama and sorrow of “ Call Me By Your Name” follows me in this book. I love the way he wrote every character and the beauty of internal dialogue in this one. I had to whip out my highlighter and start annotating because I just adore the way he writes.
If you liked the first book then I would definitely give this one a chance! If you’re looking for a perfect ending with a bow on top then you clearly didn’t read CMBYN!

I can't think of anything more disgusting than a relationship between a grown sixty year old and a young women, who he's only attracted to because she's not like other girls, she doesn't wear nail polish. Nothing made sense, and I can forgive that, but why does he break a cute father-son moment to introduce this random woman.
Elio's relationship could be better if the old man wasn't comparing him to his son every five seconds. The mystery was fun, and Elio's passion for music just does something to me, but the relationship is a hard no.
Oliver's story was believable, until he decided to run away from his entire family for a guy he hasn't seen in twenty years. And why is the half-brother named Oliver.
It's a no for me.

The first part of the book (there are three parts, first one about Elios dad, second about Elio and third part about Oliver) was so long and uninteresting. It was so boring to read about an old man's mid-life crisis and his "infatuation" with a woman around his sons age. TW for the next sentence (incest and underage sexual activites), marked in cursive. And there's 3 pages of graphic incest Between the young woman when she was 15 or 16 and her 18 year old brother. Theres also a lot of explicit sex and sexual activities between elios dad and the young woman that are just cringe to read. Half of the book is about him and its quite frankly very boring. It was not worth finishing tbh. I might pick it up again but skip the father part all together.
