This book is terrifically sad to read because you know that Ali dies at the end. It casts a shadow over every moment, and even the cruel things she says that made her a hated character in the series somehow come across as weak and desperate, the actions of a girl whose life has never been her own. It's a great addition to the canon.

Great insight into Alison and Courtney. A must read if you're a PLL fan.

uh yeah what the hell the last two chapters

Best PLL book I've read. Really heartbreaking to actually know what 'Ali' was going through, and even more sad to know that her death was imminent.

OMG! After reading this book everything else makes a hell of a lot more sense! Why "Ali" tortured them with their secrets, why "Ali" was who she was, and ultimately how "Ali" died.

Ok, the book starts with Courtney coming home from the Mental Center and switching places with her sister. They also put in the prolog why Courtney was sent to the mental institution in the first place, and we see how the real Ali set Courtney up every single time. Then it goes throughout her 6th and 7th grade year. It ends with the sleepover and Ali trying to plea for her life. We find out it really was the real Ali who killed Courtney and there is now a mystery person. Ali doesn't identify him/her before she dies. But, it's someone who Ali has heard the voice of often. (My personal suspect: Jason or Nick...)

If you are reading the Pretty Little Liars series and have gotten past the 9, read this book. It gives you the better understanding of how everything started.

This book took me back to the good old days of the beginning of the PLL series. Back when they were still amazing, and not just being pumped out for an easy cash in. It was still a little disappointing though because although it showed Ali's side of well known plot points of the series, it didn't really reveal as much as I hoped. The point of view change didn't really add much. Also, I thought it would go more in depth about the twins' relationship but it was very vague. Real Ali just did "horrible things"...no specifics. It didn't lend any insight into exactly why it was such a huge deal for them to switch and everything which I thought would be really interesting to get to see. Oh well, it made me really miss the fun and suspense of reading the first 8 books for the first time. But I am ready for this series to end...it's time.
