Such a great supplement to the series.
This might nearly be my favorite book in the series. Even books 1-8, which were really good, don't entirely stand up to this one. The unique perspective of "Ali"(really Courtney) provided something that the other books didn't.
I'm glad that the book wasn't just a rehash of all the events that we already knew about. We learned about Nick and we get an inside look in Courtney's brain, see what was really going on, how she felt about the switch and her new life, etc.
It's almost painful to read about it, realizing that she was innocent, and knowing her ultimate fate.
Overall, I loved Courtney's out-of-the-ordinary point of view. This was wayyyy better than Pretty Little Secrets, the other supplement book.

Spoiler
I urged Ali and Courtney's reconciliation at the end, when Ali starts softening up a little and considers keeping Courtney alive and being friends. Unfortunately, we know that's not the case, and Courtney dies a tragic death. The mystery of who showed up after Ali pushed her sadly gave Sara Shepard her fuel for more books.Overall, I loved Courtney's out-of-the-ordinary point of view. I really liked this one! I enjoyed reading the events leading up to book 1 of PLL from the perspective of “Alison.” Seeing how “Alison” actually died and who was involved was so good. It really tied everything together.

Actual Rating: 3.9
This is the prequel of the series. It is a interesting read. I loved this book. Out of all the Pretty Little Liars books, I always wondered about the past and how "Ali" became friends with Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily. This book answered all those questions. It was nice to see how the past reflects the future. It was truly something. Really original and great. It was an awesome book and definitely one of my favorites in the series. Overall, a fast and enjoyable read.

So I decided to read this book first in the series because I wanted to know Ali's perspective. It's a great book. It's full of suspense and thrillers and I have to admit that Sara Shepard has a talent for descriptions.
WARNING (SPOILERS):
The way she described how Ali was giving in to death in the hole was just terrible yet so amazingly described I actually wanted to read it. I still have a few questions for the person who helped "Courtney" ( the accomplis or something). Also the fact she said she knew who the person was and "heard it many times before" overall it's an awesome book to start off this series and I give it a 5/5. READ IT. Thanks

I read this book before reading the rest of the series.. actually I tried to start book 1 first but couldn't get into it so I decided to try reading this one first. The premise of the story really drew me in to read the rest of the book.. to say what that is would probably be a spoiler but it is revealed early in the story and it's a good one! Even without knowing what happens in the other books it was a compelling and quick read. The things I didn't like about this book is that it's a bit young for me, I think younger readers would enjoy it more, and most of the characters seem very self-centered and unlikable, especially the main character Ali. They reminded me of the mean girls in school! But all the action and drama in the story keep the reader interested despite these limitations.
The book doesn't tell you everything new but watching it in Alison (Courtney)'s POV was very fun. She's such a well written character and I just couldn't put it down. Although it's not necessary to read, I do recommend to read it for a different perspective. 10/10, I wouldn't change anything
