This series started off interesting and it was really fun to read but then it became incredibly dull. I didn't read the whole run of Birds of Prey before (even though it has my all time favorite characters from the DC universe) because it's too long - but it wasn't my first reading of a Birds of Prey title... this was semi-good. I gave almost all the other issues 4 stars and this was one of the exceptions because near the end I got extremely bored and was almost happy it finally ended.

The whole series is overall good though (and there might be lots of people who thought it didn't become /dull/ near the end), it's female-driven, funny at times and the art is really good!

If you enjoyed this I recommend reading Gail Simone's Batgirl too:

a. you can understand Batgirl's storyline better in this arc because she sometimes disappears and comes back feeling all depressed or comes back with a friend
b. the art is very similar and well, Batgirl is definitely a better read than this.

I’m finally finished with The Birds of Prey. Like with the last volume Marx’s writing is better than Swierczynski’s, but like this just didn’t have any meat to the stories. The soap opera of Black Canary wailing & crying over her “husband” was pitiful. Not sure with whom the target audience was for this comic. There really wasn’t much “teamwork” in this team. Condor came across as a love sick sap that would do whatever Canary asked as long as she’d love him

No more Birds of Prey : (

I want a Strix/Mother Eve offshoot.

Strix appears in another series, [b:Secret Six|25810101|Secret Six, Vol. 1 Friends in Low Places|Gail Simone|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1453059303l/25810101._SY75_.jpg|45666144], but I'm not sure I want to read another [a:Gail Simone|45103|Gail Simone|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1266594414p2/45103.jpg] title.

At least now Batgirl is on her own again. Screw Black Canary - she's just way too selfish and mopey. Condor would've done them both favors if he'd just let Ra's team kill

. Also, wtf happened to Starling? This series was more fun when she was in it.

Not the worst New 52 title but definitely nowhere near the best. Probably wouldn't lose much, even if you like these characters, if this series was just skipped.

I know I'm just singing the same song here, but this title doesn't work without someone filling the role vacated by Oracle. Yes Barbara is here, but she's basically a side character in Black Canary's messy plot. Outside if the first volume maybe, this New 52 run has never felt like Birds of Prey.

We talk about this and the Birds of Prey in general on a special episode of the All the Books Show: https://soundcloud.com/allthebooks/episode-234-birds-of-prey

I'm not a fan of the New 52 comic compilations. They tend to start in the middle of story, throwing in portions of comics already included in another graphic novel and then finishing it yet another incomplete comic series.

Here we have Vol 5, which includes Black Canary's back story, part of a story arc involving Ra's Al Ghul and ending with an odd comic revolving around a changed BC and Batgirl.

On top that, this particular story arc isn't particularly interesting: Condor brooding over Black Canary who is brooding over her comatose husband. All while being yelled at by Batgirl.

It's strange and not overly compelling.

This volume is the blueprint of how groups should break up. They should peter out, let disagreements and changed priorities get in the way of team dynamics. Teams die by a thousand cuts and to see these women (and Condor) go there separate ways as this series concludes is a satisfying end.
