This story reminded me of Skellig, by David Almond. The MC is a young boy with some mental health issues (anxiety, OCD, etc). His parents have a new baby with serious health problems and all the worries that come with that situation.
The feeling I got as I read was of being stuck in a waking nightmare. The author kept the suspense going until the last possible minute and I wasn't sure how it would all turn out. This was a really creepy story and one that I will recommend to my reluctant readers.

One of the best depictions of anxiety I've ever read. The descriptions of Steven's panic and anxiety are spot on. A strange, dark story of a family in crisis, adjusting to the addition of a new baby with congenital defects. Their oldest child, Steven, has a history of OCD, and begins having strange dreams involving silvery wasps and a replacement baby. Scary in many ways, both childlike fears and very adult fears.
This was an odd book, one that I liked but did not love. I was so intrigued by the dream vs reality aspect of the story and I honestly thought I knew where it was heading. In the end, I was dead wrong, but I have to say, I think I would've liked the book better had I been right.
Creepy as heck, but very good. Don't read it if you have a phobia about wasps!

If you have a fear of wasps, this book will terrify you. If you don't have a fear of wasps, this book will still terrify you because you'll have developed a fear of wasps. Quite possibly the scariest middle grade book I've ever read.
Incredibly gripping! A book that you are reading so fast you fear you might trip over something and fall out of the story. Most excellent.
I seem to be in the minority for this one, but I DID NOT like this book.
It is a middle grade novel about a boy with a lot of worries: a sick baby brother fighting for his life, his parents and how they are coping, and the wasps in his backyard. He dreams of an angelic wasp queen who tells him the wasps can fix his brother and the story goes on from there.
I found it really dark and creepy for a middle grade novel and did not enjoy the magical realism. I kept trying to find deeper meaning/metaphors for what was happening but could not. Maybe I just didn't get it? I don't know. I was not a fan.
