Compulsive reading, I really enjoyed the writer's style and got completely caught up in the story. A really great concept that has been told extremely well. The characters were really well defined and the descriptions of the conditions in which they lived were detailed and horrifying.

This was so good—glad I heard about it. I didn’t know I was craving the story of a woman who discovered after childhood that she was the product of her father kidnapping her mother, living like homesteaders in the marsh. And now that father has escaped from prison, so that—of course—our heroine must track him down. Full of nature, parent-child relationship, and living off the land. As well as a dog. Yes, please.
Book club read. My rating went up after the discussion. Realized that I really liked most of the writing and the character development was strong. While I didn’t find the mystery as gripping as others it was well constructed for good storytelling.
a great read, thrilling and captivating. lots of great nature info, psychology, some First Nations history and good weaving in of a classic HCA fairy tale. Great writing, good heroine. Helena is not overly likable, but not difficult to understand.
I enjoyed this book, but the ending fell apart a bit and strained credulity, at least for me.
Wow - what a read! I couldn't put it down. The description of the UP's marshes are heady. The characters frighteningly believable. Great premise. Great book.
I really enjoyed this book! Very fast paced and sucked me in from the first page. I had it on audio and kindle and was reading both to move faster! I loved the setting in Michigan and the native american tie ins. Great story too - moving back and forth in time and really engaged me.
For something quick and easy, it delivered. The feral child storyline is captivating.
