3.75/5. I wouldn't exactly say I enjoyed this book, exactly. There were elements, such as the depiction of nature and life in the Upper Peninsula, a place I know nothing about, that were lovely. I hate to describe Helena as unlikeable because, to me, her thought process and way of viewing things made sense, especially given how she was raised.

The story was tense whether there chapters were set in the present or the past.

Ultimately it has a satisfying ending.

Another great psychological thriller.

I really enjoyed the back and forth between life in captivity and life now; and how these two points in time connect/intertwine.

I loved how this book was about the UP of Michigan! I really enjoyed the descriptions of the wilderness and it reminded me of the times I spent there. In general the plot was gripping, very disturbing but fast paced. My main issue with the book was that Helena was a bit hard to connect with, especially in her interactions with her mom and husband. I also think “narcissist” was not the best description for her father, who was really a psychopath. Overall was a captivating but chilling read.

I’m not quite sure what to think of this.

I’m not a fan of this writing style, but the story itself was fast paced and I had no problem reading in one sitting… very different.

This will definitely make a really good movie.
