I adored Eddie Winston and Bella's friendship ALMOST as much as Lenni and the chaplain's friendship in Marianne Cronin's previous novel. You most likely would enjoy this if you enjoyed Sipsworth by Simon Van Booy or Marianne Cronin's One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot (One of my all-time favorite reads). There is a lot of depth, description, and lovable characters packed into just over 300 pages. That said, it feels purposeful, not overwhelming or complicated to track. The dual timeline was done SO well. I rarely enjoy that writing style; however, in this case, it added to the story rather than detracted from it.

“Love is really just two people who can't keep away from each other.”
I remember really enjoying Marianne Cronin's debut, and I've been meaning to read Eddie Winston Is Looking For Love ever since it was published last year. Then again, I always have a weak spot for stories with older main characters as well as stories focusing on an unlikely friendship... And this book turned out to be a beautiful rendering of both. There is just something about 90-year-old Eddie that will win over your heart immediately, and he is without a doubt one of the main reasons this story works so well. Eddie Winston Is Looking For Love uses a multiple POV structure, switching between Eddie, Bella and Bridie as well as using numerous flashbacks to different points in the past for both Eddie and Bridie. The flashbacks are mainly used to show the growing connection between Eddie and Bridie, and they help explain why Eddie has yet to have his first kiss... Although I do confess that I prefer the chapters set in the present, as I'm never a big fan of a cheating angle nor a love triangle vibe. I especially treasured the budding friendship between Bella and Eddie, which is without doubt one of my favorite parts of the story and I love how they both help each other grow. The side characters are great as well, and I loved the many mentions of Eddie's guinea pig Puskin! I do have to say that Bella's letters to Jake were highly annoying to read; it was basically a stream of consciousness without proper punctuation, and it really distracted from the rest of the story. The fact that we never learn what happened to him was a bit disappointing as well. That said, those were only minor blips in what is otherwise a wonderful story focusing on friendship, love as well as grief. The humor helped balancing out some of the heavier moments in the plot!
