This book borders between a picture book and a j fiction title. It is a great STEM related title, with plenty of opportunities for further exploration based on the subject matter.

An absolutely adorable and gorgeously illustrated tale about mouse inventors and explorers! Pete is a young mouse who comes to ask the Professor (an instructor at the Mouse University) for help in finding a treasure his ancestor supposedly had. After delving into the historical records, the two mice discover the treasure is buried at the bottom of the sea with a shipwreck. They both must use their scientific process to find out a way to reach the ocean floor and invent and invention that will get them there!

Not only does this cover the trial and error of inventing something, but the reveal of who Pete's ancestor helped out
Spoilerthe mouse helped Thomas Edison invent the lightbulb
adds an additional level of scientific history and education to the story.

The art is incredibly detailed and gorgeously colored, so it catches the eye and engages those of us who are more artsy inclined, and also provides many double page panels of illustrations that help tell the story where words don't. It's the perfect pairing between science, art, and writing!

I have had Kuhlmann's other books on my tbr list for some time now, and I will definitely be checking more of those out soon!!

Upea kuvitus ja ihastuttava hiirinäkökulmainen katsaus historiaan, aikaan, jolloin hehkulamppu ja sukellusvene olivat vielä uusia keksintöjä.

A little bit informative but not a very exciting read. My 9 year enjoyed it but it was kind of blah. We did enjoy the illustrations.

In this adorable story Pete, a little mouse, seeks the professor of the University of Mice to help him solve the mystery of one of his ancestors. After working together to gather more information around this mystery, the professor agrees to help Pete on his journey to find the missing treasure. They work together to build a device that will take them to the bottom of the ocean where the sunken ship is. What will they find?

I thought this book was very well done. I was completely enamored with the illustrations in this story. They are beautiful and add to the story itself. I loved that there were pages with no text and where the illustration covered the spread of the pages. The details are stunning and without these pages, the story wouldn't be the same.

The book is written in short chapters which I find children always enjoy. This book would be great for younger kids when read aloud or older kids to read independently. This book was nominated for the Batchelder Award in 2019.
