This book was jam-packed with miscommunication, push/pull, lies, obligations, and a dark undertone that never let up.
Maeve was a bit naive and a whole lotta martyr. She made a lot of stupid, abrupt decisions because of the situations she found herself in. I found myself a bit frustrated with her character, but at the same time I empathized with her. I mean, Jack didn't make the best decisions either, so he was half of the reasons for her mistakes. BUT I did like his character arc a bit more. Maeve brought out a soft side in him and while everything would've gone smoother if these two had used words, it wouldn't have added the necessary angst that fueled this story.
As far as Mafia romances goes, this one was closer to the Sopranos in execution. No trust, the darker side of Mafia life, and lots of rules and expectations. If that's up your alley, then this book is perfect! If you really, REALLY love a longer, drawn out push/pull, then this book is perfect!

Maeve needs money fast her addict brother has run up a debt and unless she finds the cash in 24 hours she will be put up as collateral.
She turns to childhood nemesis Jack O’Reagan heir to a criminal Irish mafia family.
The deal is simple one night in his bed and her debt will be cleared.
Jack has always coveted Maeve but believes because she is an outsider she’s off-limits this deal changes everything and now he finally has her he has no intentions of letting her go.
Maeve has few choices open to her so a deal with the devil which is how she sees Jack seems her only option now this choice throws her into a whole new reality where her only options are sink or swim.
But as she spends time around Jack her feelings deepen and she finds herself in for the long haul.
This is an enemy to lovers story and it was a fast-paced easy page-turner.
It’s Irish mafia so does contain a lot of murky darkness and blurred boundaries.
Jack definitely grew on me he is basically a product of his upbringing and criminal lifestyle but he does have a softer side one that Maeve gradually brings forth.
Maeve could be a bit annoying she’s always running headlong into danger without thinking of the consequences but I did like her she was basically in over her head and just reacting on her instinct.
I enjoyed this a lot and am definitely on board for the next book in the series which I believe is Shay’s.
Darkness wise this one is quite mild though it does deal with dark events the romance itself wasn’t really that.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Mafia Prince.

Good story, love the characters, Jack and Maeve's story was an interesting dark mafia romance, the audiobook narrated by Michael Gallagher and Sarah Jane Rose is a great way to enjoy this story, they did a good job portraying the characters and their voices where good. Editing and everything were done well. I think the audiobook will let you enjoy this story more than just reading it.

* thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review*
Honestly, that was pretty mediocre.
There wasn't enough action in the book, it felt really staged and forced, the events just don't turn alive in your head.
The characters were so bland, the male protagonist is really badly written, like i know he has to be ruthless and dominant,, but he was just angry all the time unless he was having a "rendezvous" with the lead female, if you know what I mean.
Overall, i really didn't like it.

This Irish mafia romance starts of the series with a bang. Maeve is a delight to read. She's strong and full of purpose. Family is at the heart of this story for both the main characters but it's how they go about fulfilling that role is unique. Jack is the next in line to take over his father's empire, but when the woman for his youth comes asking for help, but is brutal in the repayment of her loan. So many likable characters in this book at the same time you feel you should have them. Can't wait for book two.
Oh the suspense!

I'm very picky about my dark romances and have a few lines that, if crossed, immediately make a book a no-go for me. The first half of this book did get a little too close to the consent line for me, but boy oh boy, the drama in the second half? It was like a soap opera up in here and I was all for it.
Plus, the end of this book teased a spin-off mafia arranged marriage and if that isn't right up my alley, I don't know what is. I can't wait!
