I enjoyed revisiting this story a touch more than the first. I’d honestly forgotten a lot of Ripley’s book in this trilogy, so reading this one today felt a little like reading it for the first time even as pieces of the story came back to me. It was interesting to see how her part in the curse/prophecy would play out, that’s for sure, but I also quite enjoyed just seeing more of the other characters and seeing her relationship with Mac blossom.

Pros:
Too often main characters are made out to be perfect or their actions are deemed okay because they overall do good things. I enjoy that Ripley is real. She is flawed. She jumps to conclusions, she is jealous, she takes things out on others. At the end of the day she tries to do the right thing but sometimes it takes a little to get there.
Cons:
I understand taking the evil from Evan to a possession type situation with a new person but part of me wishes it was still directly connected and solidly in the physical world. Maybe a lawyer coming to try to go after Nell or an employee or the sister.

I liked the story, but the featured sister (Ripley) needs to lay off the juice cuz girlfriend is kind of ragey. Jeepers lady. Calm the fuck down.
Seriously though, I found her so repellent that I had a hard time getting invested in the story. When you are supposed to be cheering for the female and you find yourself thinking her love interest could do better? Something is just not right.

Another fun read in the Three Sisters Island trilogy. Ripley may have grown up on Three Sisters and may have originally accepted her witch upbringing but something from her past has led her to deny her true nature and push her best friend, Mia, away. After helping Nell defeat her living monster danger is back on the island, ready to attack, and finish what had only just begun. With a new love in Ripley's life is she ready to risk it all to open herself up to something she's been denying for so long? Really enjoyed the plot line progression, I still don't 100% understand why Ripley is so angry but really loved Mac and thought he brought so much light and ease to her life. Can't wait to finish up the series!

When I first read this series years ago, I remember finding this to be the one I liked least. On this reread, surprisingly, I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Ripley and Mac were interesting characters, the plot was entertaining, and overall it was an enjoyable read.

Soothing light read, as always, from Roberts.
More like a 2.5 rating, but this book just didn't hold my attention.
