This was the best book I've read on marriage. Keller does an excellent job of focusing on the big picture of marriage and what husband and wife must do to make it a marriage thrive. He also makes a compelling case for marriage in a world increasingly questioning the institution of marriage. I wish I had read this book years ago and it is a great book to recommend to anyone before they are married. His sections on the stranger you married and how people change throughout marriage is pure gold and spot on. I definitely recommend this book.
I'm only half-way through this book but I just had to say that it is just GREAT, so far! It may turn out to be the best book I've read on truly christian marriage. Highly recommend it, even to teen-agers who are just beginning to think about the bigger issue of what this mysterious thing called marriage is all about. I wish I had understood some of this before even dating.
Good book for my single friends also.
Also, I would call it my 2nd most profound relationship....

A lot of valuable advice. I don't agree with everything Keller presents - he has extremely conservative views of marriage. However, it is definitely a worthwhile read.
Loved the style and content of the writing in this marriage book. So many high points. Addresses many things that ministers to people in every season- single, married, etc and will be beneficial for encouraging others. A great one to revisit often.
Pretty good stuff. I read this over the summer so I don’t recall exact thoughts, but I do remember loving the chapters on marriage as a best-friendship; how to love and serve each other despite incompatibilities; and how to love & embrace “the other” - the person you did not know your spouse actually was.
This book keeps things real and exposes the realities of marriage, but counteracts them with truth about its beautiful purposes. Although it’s written from a Christian worldview, I remember thinking of several of my non-Christian friends while reading it who would have appreciated, agreed with, and benefited from a lot of its teachings.
Also, although I love Tim Keller’s teachings I am not a huge fan of his writing style. That being said, I do love how he is fair to skeptics and always addresses arguments and opinions that challenge Biblical viewpoints.
This is is a simple read and provides a lot of helpful thought, regardless of your relationship status or views on marriage.

A must read for singles and dating, engaged, and married couples. Tim Keller is one of the most gifted voices of modern Christianity - he is both able to address clearly modern concerns with the bright light of the truth of Scripture. The Meaning of Marriage is Keller's response to the secular voices of society that declare that marriage and relationships are all about our own self-fulfillment. He responds to this empty belief system with the truth that marriage is all about Christ and can only be accomplished through the grace and love and Christ. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to have a God-exalting and Bible-centered view of marriage.

This is a must-read for everyone, whether single or married. A very eye opening, scripture based, and telling book (including the Keller's own experiences through marriage) that has drastically changed how I view marriage. It provides clarity and depth into examining our own character and seeing how much one fails in truly loving the other spouse with the kind of love that God intended.
Such a phenomenal book that I have recommended to everyone I know (and have purchased it for friends as well).
