I read this because I'm a gigantic fan of Ryan North's Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and for fans of SG, this is a bit of a meh. It's a collection of comics she appeared in before her glow-up into her own series, which means you do have to power through a lot of stories centering other character—particularly those of the Great Lakes Avengers—and, let's be real, none of them are as fun as SG. So, the SG stuff is fun (though a little less so when she's all boy crazy for a member of the Thunderbolts), but the other stuff is just kind of mediocre, especially when you get some Deadpool issues later in the run where it just becomes the Deadpool show, which is not why you buy a book that has Squirrel Girl on the cover, let's be real.

Fantastic to see the origin of Squirrel Girl, and how much of it has been incorporated into the new series.

ugh...don't waste your time reading this. The worst team ever The Great Lakes Avengers. Basically, castoffs that The Avengers didn't want. Even if you are a fan of the new Squirrel Girl series this will not be what you are hoping to see. Even the Deadpool team up was not that great.

Great presentation but stories that fall far short of Ryan North's current series.

I stumbled across Squirrel Girl with the new YA novel that came out in 2017, but when I found out she was a legit hero who is/was part of a Great Lakes-based superhero group, I had to read more. This trade paperback collects the origin story of the GLA (the GLX, the GLI, the GLD), and any other mentions of the crew in other comics, like Thing #8. It appears that Squirrel Girl has more street cred with the superhero world than most of the other members, which is gratifying to me, but a few of these collected issues seemed a stretch, as to the GLA's actual involvement. Fun to read all the same, and I'm looking forward to reading the other TPs.
