I picked this book up because of its connection to the Pacific Northwest, specifically Bend, Oregon. The characters were pretty realistic, but the plot was too convoluted to believe. It kept me guessing and that speaks to the writer's ability to weave a good story.

The premise of The Last Thing She Ever Did had me hooked, parental guilt, a missing child, secrets piling up, but the delivery didn’t fully hit for me. It started off strong, but the pacing got weird. Some parts dragged when I expected things to ramp up, and a lot of the twists felt like ones I’ve seen before.
The characters had potential, but honestly some of them just irritated me more than anything. I will say Gregg Olsen does a solid job exploring how one choice can unravel everything, and there were definitely moments where I felt the suspense. It just didn’t leave a lasting impression. It’s an okay read if you’re into domestic thrillers, but it’s not one I’d rush to recommend.

I am honestly not totally sure how I felt about this book. The beginning was boring to listen to, but did eventually pick up. I guessed the ending really quickly and was disappointed in that fact. The writing was pretty good and I liked the narration on audible.
Intriguing but Drags On
The writing is very good, but the story drags in the middle and the ending is terrible. This is a mystery thriller and starts off fast, gives lots of background, gets the reader invested. Then it takes a major slump, to the point where I considered reading the ending and adding this to my “did not finish” pile. There are a lot of inconsequential details that I believe are written in as character assassination to main players, but it fails and only drags out the lull. Finally, the ending, it’s a happier one, but suddenly ends. An epilogue would’ve been great and could’ve tied up all the loose ends. As it stands, I just won’t recommend this book. Great author. This just isn’t his best work.

Picked this book up at the library and could literally not put it down. Right out of the gate you’re faced with the impending doom that now seems to be Liz’s life and things just spiral from there. It will have you thinking, WTF most of the time as the characters actions are revealed. Really great read - keeps you on your toes and wanting more. 10/10 recommend.
