I can’t quite decide if it was irritating having a talking magpie narrate the story, or very clever. I found it quick and easy to read (but skimmed many of the parts with the other magpies)  but also a wee bit annoying. And while it’s very funny in parts, the main story (about infant loss and domestic violence) felt a bit less impactful for me because of the shenanigans in f the talking magpie. 

I didn’t understand the father magpie storyline either.

Creatively written in the magpie Tama's voice. He sees everything, understands a lot, and is pretty funny. The novel follows an abusive marriage in a rural setting with wife Marnie taking in a baby magpie, Tama. They become social media successful & that changes everything.
