This is not review for Elon musk but for the book. It was not as good as the other book I had read from the same author notably Leonardo de Vinci and Steve Jobs. It was a long and difficult to read the book. And it felt trying to fit Elon musk in a mold he created of other geniuses. It was a lot of information some interesting but a lot was boring.

One of the most comprehensive biographies from the master of biographies. Walter Isaacson does an incredible job of illustrating Musk’s life from childhood until present day. He handles a variety of situations from Neuralink, space flight, twitter/x, and every in between with incredible detail. The way the topics which are som complex are summed down for the lay person to understand is fantastic.

The book definitely, intended or not, illustrates the similarities between Musk and Jobs. The book does an incredible job of painting this conflicted Musk in so many fashions. The amount of success and failures and failures Musk has had and how they shaped him and future business plans was fantastic. A massive but well written book is worth the read if you are interested in Musk, business, popular culture or biographies.

I always like Isaacson’s deep dives but I didn’t love his handling of the Twitter saga. You could read his own biases into the event and it felt like it was dragged out longer than the other parts. It could also be because it’s the most recent drama so felt bigger than it really was. To wit, history will most likely remember Musk for his cars and rockets with Twitter being a side note. But bc Twitter is more politically charged it felt like the book made a bigger of it than needed to be.

Walter Isaacson’s biography on potentially the most impactful person of our generation, captures the real essence of the erratic, but insanely talented entrepreneur, Elon Musk.

~

Elon Musk is a CHARACTER. From being bullied to being ruthless, from Tesla to Twitter, from Grimes to Amber Heard. Walter Isaacson has delved into almost every aspect of the South African-born engineer turned serial entrepreneur’s life.

Walter’s work is so good that in certain chapters you feel like you’re in the room witnessing first-hand the antics. In others, you feel like you’re reading the story of a superhuman.

You navigate from feeling bad for the upbringing he had, to despising Elon as he sets inhumane, bordering criminal working standards in his companies. Yet, his love for his children stands as a shining light throughout, unlike his father, for whom I don’t have words to explain.

Elon’s passion for solving critical problems like sustainable energy (Tesla and SolarCity), human survival (SpaceX), access to the internet (Starlink), reversing disability (Neuralink), free speech (X, formerly Twitter), traffic (The Boring Company), and safe use of AI (X.AI) all at the same time makes him stand apart from literally every other inventor/entrepreneur on this planet.

I have to admit that I used to be a fanboy, but not anymore. I still believe what he’s doing is highly important for the sake of humanity, but not much on how he achieves it. Maybe it’s the only reason his companies are thriving today. His harshest critics agree.

Nonetheless, order a copy today and dive into the world of Elon. You won’t regret it.

This biography is all over the place which really mirrors the mercurial nature of its subject. I'm exhausted from reading this roller coaster and I can't imagine being in Elon's orbit. His mind is relentless, his moods are unpredictable, his relationships are pure chaos, and his influence is undeniable. My childhood dream of working for Space X has been completely deflated by this account of his impossible standards. He makes a very interesting subject to examine.

I started this book basically anti-Elon and in reading this have come to understand that he is actually changing the world in ways that all of us only wish we could.
