4.5! While there were some minor details that I didn’t like about the book, overall, I found the novel to be a really cute, quick easy read. I liked that while explaining parallel universes, the author didn’t make it confusing as I’ve read in other books.
I honestly loved this book! I always think about how my life would be different if I'd made other choices, especially since I moved around a bit when I was a kid, and this book really captured the feeling. The ending was also perfect, and while there was little romance, I felt myself getting lost in Kennedy's story of self-discovery more and more.
For the people who DNF'd this book because of how Kennedy made fun of her other self for having makeup and girly things, get over yourselves. It's in the book very briefly, and it worked as a device to make Kennedy feel like she was in truly uncharted territory.

While the concept isn't super original, it's one that I liked; what would your life be like if you made a different choice? Kennedy choose to ignore her acceptance to the prestigious Windsor Academy and stay at the public high school to continue dating Austin. And now in her senior year they're still together, but then she finds him making out with her best-friend and she questions it all. She finds herself, slightly hysterical, at Windsor Academy begging for a spot when she hits her head and wakes up as Windsor Academy super student Kennedy 'Crusher' Rhodes. Finally getting the chance to live out her academic dream she begins to discover that her first choice might not have been so bad after all.
I was bored. I didn't like Kennedy (I was actually kind of happy for Austin and her best-friend Laney, she wasn't very good to either of them, not horrible, just rather self involved) and couldn't find her obsession with Windsor Academy believable. Sure she had some regrets, but it's still just a school. Also, I know we were working a little with a parallel universe theory and not just a simple what if sequence, but everything else is essentially the same, just different outcomes based on her decision to go to Windsor Academy, but all the sudden she goes from someone who prefers jeans and t-shirts and nothing pink and sparkly (seriously used as a defining characteristic for her several times) to a person who wears skirts and has a pink sparkly phone case. Was her personality really based that much on who she became friends with? She couldn't have been top of her class at Windsor and still wear jeans and t-shirts on the weekend?
I just didn't care if she got stuck in her new world, even if it all was on the verge of imploding.

Spoiler
Also, when she did return to her original life she never even considers that other world Kennedy could have been acting in her shoes and what might have happened while she was gone. She just slipped in a month later like she never left. Who was being her while she was gone? The other Kennedy went back to a life where she had dropped out of Windsor and admitted to being the mastermind behind a cheating scandal. But this girl did nothing but let the original Kennedy's life play placidly out, while observing (and knew to ignore Laney and Austin?). Really?

fun young adult read.. would recommend to 7th/8th grade reader☺️
I've loved both books this author has written. Safe to say she's probably one of my favorites for YA contemporary now. I was apprehensive about the book because of the ratings. But I adored it.
This is my second Jessica Brody novel (the first being The Chaos of Standing Still), and it was just as enjoyable. Quite honestly, my only qualm with In Some Other Life is how much of a goody-two-shoes the main character is. Other than that, I adored the story.
I thoroughly enjoy stories about alternate realities and I think In Some Other Life did a good job of introducing the idea early on and then having someone to explain it without it seeming out of place in the story. Seeing how neither reality was perfect was fun to read about, and also the little mystery in the story was fun as well.
All in all, In Some Other Life was a wonderful and also surprisingly fast read. If you're a fan of contemporary, parallel universes, or Jessica Brody, In Some Other Life may be the book for you!

Kennedy Rhodes thought her life was perfect. The best friend, the best boyfriend, and all that came crashing down in a fiery pit of crap. It was depressing, and it all flipped one evening. Then she hits her head and everything is changed. Then she meets a new best friend and a new life comes and it is not as perfect as she imagined. It is crazy exciting and you are wrapped in this world of pure joy.
Exciting stuff.
