Immortal longings story is a great concept but it kept losing my interest. I did not become invested into the book until 60% in.. the ending, when I swiped to keep reading and the acknowledgment page came. I gasped.

I started the physical for this but the blurb had me a little iffy on if I would fully enjoy it, I have much more tolerance for audio so decided to give that a go. I did actually end up really enjoying it, gave me hungry game vibes, kill or be killed. I loved Calla and her badass ways. I loved the relationship her and Anton ended up having. I really hope we get more between Augustus and his bodyguard as they had me really intrigued.
The jumping of bodies did confuse me a little at first because I don’t feel like it was massively explained but I kinda got the gist of it the more I read. I’m not sure if it was because it was the audio and it was all one narrator but at points I did find it hard to tell which characters pov I was in, as there was a few.
The ending had me shook, like i knew something was going to go down but I didn’t expect that and I’m really looking forward to book 2. This was my first Chloe Gong book and I will definitely pick up some more of her work.

This was fine for me. I struggled to get into the audiobook at first, but eventually found myself warming to the story and characters. I think I might have had a better time of it reading the physical copy, as some information dumps were a lot to keep track of through audio only, where I might have been a little more distracted.
Still, I enjoyed the battle royale element, the magic system and the grittiness of the world and was surprised by some of the twists and turns.

3.5 stars. calla saves the book for me. it was hard to get through at first but eventually picked up. some of the plots are boring/confusing but the twists did surprise me.
