This was a really fast and cute read, the title was catchy and I was immediately drawn in. Dylan and his family are so funny and Megan stole the show a couple of times. Their banter reminded me of my family and I. Theo was also kind but I did question his choices with his friend. I didn’t expect an epic love story but I appreciated this snippet of finding someone in the least likely of ways. I also appreciated the insight into their culture and walked away being more appreciative of the cuisine.

Was missing something i dont think there was enough about the mooncake contest and the romance seemed forced and aqward. Also seemed to be that every time something went wrong the summers just swooped in with money to fix it they felt more like 2d plot devices than characters you cared about.

adrian is canceled

I liked the book, I just wish there would have been more mooncake competition and less drama (especially the Adrian drama)
funny hopeful lighthearted relaxing fast-paced

*An ARC was provided by NetGalley and Random House Children's in exchange for an honest review*

The pure joy I felt when receiving this ARC almost killed me. The pure joy I felt while reading it revived me.

When the comp titles are [b:Heartstopper: Volume One|40495957|Heartstopper Volume One (Heartstopper, #1)|Alice Oseman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1541887843l/40495957._SY75_.jpg|62811229] and [b:Crazy Rich Asians|16085481|Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians, #1)|Kevin Kwan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1364852559l/16085481._SY75_.jpg|21571970], it sets a very high bar for the author to deliver on. Somehow, some way, Sher Lee does. This is literally [b:Heartstopper: Volume One|40495957|Heartstopper Volume One (Heartstopper, #1)|Alice Oseman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1541887843l/40495957._SY75_.jpg|62811229] meets [b:Crazy Rich Asians|16085481|Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians, #1)|Kevin Kwan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1364852559l/16085481._SY75_.jpg|21571970].

This is the perfect afternoon snuggled-on-the-couch read or perfect avoiding-work read or perfect travel read. It's perfect period because it's the perfect cocktail of cute, funny, romantic, and social commentary that YA readers have become accustomed to in this golden era of YA. I am obsessed and hopefully you will be, too. :)

"'Does heartbreak hurt this bad every time, or just the first?'...'Oh, sweetie...Giving your heart to someone is like learning to ride a bike. You'll skin your elbows and knees, but the pain will pass. You'll heal. And one day, the scars will be a memory, not of falling, but of getting up again.'"

“Our worlds are as far apart as the sun and the moon.”
“They align every now and then,” Aunt Jade points out.
“Eclipses are pretty memorable.”

Last year was my introduction to Sher Lee when I received an ARC of her debut historical fantasy Legend of the White Snake, there is a review further down, so I won’t get into that. It did make me want to see what her contemporary romance was like since I had been told good things.

Sher Lee did not disappoint me this time either. For the people saying this was insta-love, I personally didn’t think it was. I can see why it was possibly perceived that way as they did have an initial attraction to each other, but they were not in love, nor did it suggest that was the case. It did however showcase that butterfly, tingly feeling you get when you are a teenager (or anyone) with a crush. The stark contrast between a supportive family network and less than so for the two MMCs, with the main drama coming from one side in particular. I could have done with the “bestie” Adrian and more of Megan.

Sher does an amazing job of weaving Chinese culture and Eastern values throughout the story, and the food descriptions will make you hungry. Please don’t go into this on na empty stomach.

The main reason it lost a star was because although both of the MMCs had dealt with similar grief which gave them something common to bond over. This felt like it was glossed over a little rather than explored which it could have been.

It was like a BL “Crazy Rich Asians” (mentioned in the book), and overall a cute, light-hearted read. as such If you enjoy those types of books this is a win for sure.
